K6-3 Exclusive/Inclusive cache?

Rand

Lifer
Anyone care to refres my memory back to the older K6-3 core. More specifically was the processor cache inclusive or exclusive?

If I remember correctly it was exclusive cache.... anyone remember, or can point me towards the relevant tech docs?

I'm 99% certain that it had inclusive cache... AFAIK only x86 processors with exclusive cache are Athlons and it's derivates.

Dually: You wouldn't, I would. K6-3's are kickass upgrades for old Socket7 mobos... everybody can't waste their money to dual P3's, U know 😉

Oh, I have no intention buying one it's more a matter of curiosity.
As Priit said though, they make for decently performing cheap upgrades for older S7 based systems though. The integer performance on the K6-3+ series is still half-way decent.

Actually my first hoem built was a socket 7 3 years ago (K6-2 400). Last summer I got a AMD K6-3+ 450MHz for my server and it was a huge improvement. If you want a good socket7 cpu get one of those.

Heh, K6-3+ and K6-3 are performing almost identically, that "+" model only has little slower power consumtion (made in 0.18 micron technology instead of 0.25), extra 19 3DNow! instructions (like Athlon) and PowerNow! (let's you to change processors multiplier/voltage on-the-fly). If you don't overclock, "usual" K6-3 is just as good...
