K6-3 450@600 + Whistler = EXTRA PERFORMANCE!!!

OK, I really wasnt expecting this, nor can I explain it...

When I benched my K63+450 @ 600 w/ v3 3000 on Win2k vs Whistler, here is what I got:

Sandra:

Win2k / Whistler

CPU 1476 / 1578
FPU 754 / 786

Q3 Demo

38fps / 42fps

3D mark

1901 / 2015

now, these are not phenomenal, but this is with "experimental" drivers included with the OS. I expect that the drivers will improve by the time this os is RTM

I am very impressed with this os. The GUI has undergone a major revamp. And there are some significant networking / system info and performance upgrades...

I feel sorry for all the people who bought winME. Clearly, this os is going to be targeted at the home/office and server market. Offering Stability, performance, and eyecandy!

thats great news, i have been crossing my fingers for this os to do some good. its not out yet is it? and what about compatablity with win95/98 games? also, any idea on the price?

Whistler's in beta 1 stage right now. Nobody can get it legitimately except for MSDN subscribers (I am one, so I downloaded it from MS), betatesters, and so on.

Well, I just wanted to give people the heads up on the new OS. the look and feel of this OS is going to simply dazzel people. I cant go back to win2k...its just that nice.

winME is a good short term solution, but Whistler is what people should save their pennies for. Its going to make everything else look like old hat...

(except OS-X ... let the flames begin...
