I am really holding off my upgrade with my single a64 chip.... and agp $H**... which doesnt let me upgrade yet

I am just curious to see what amd has to offer with their k10 chips... but i was just thinking about it.... Will i ever be able to get a K10 chip for about $200-250 from AMD anytime soon?

Will that be 4 cores? i doubt it they will be that cheap or will they? Then if not 4 cores for that price.... i think we will have to wait even longer to get the dual cores of K10? Is that right or are they both( dualcore and quadcore) coming at about the same time?

If that means i will have to wait till 2008 then i might as well upgrade to a Intel 6320 or 6420 and R600 in May.... n forget K10 :(

You won't be able to get a Desktop K10 chip until the end of the year or possibly next year.

There's rumors of r600 and Barcelona demos coming soon. If we don't hear any details then I'd go ahead and upgrade now. Why not get a cheap x2 now (I'm assuming you have s939).

According to the K8L (K10 for those of us in the know) entry at wikipedia, desktop K10 chips will be available in Q3 2007.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K8L

There isn't any specific mention of when Agena and AgenaFX will be available, but Kuma should be out in Q3 while Rana should be out in Q4. I'm guessing Q3 for Agena and AgenaFX.

Ehh WHY WHY... Because i have a damn Nforce3 board with AGP..... and if i go to an x2 939 that means i have to stick to agp for another vidcard upgrade.... Im just sick of AGP and their prices/performance cards .... when u can get a higher performance pci-E card for cheaper.

I was looking at the x2 3800 for $95 at newegg last night.... n i almost clicked checkout ... :( i dont want nomore AGPPPPPPP

sry but its so frustrating..

You should just wait it out until K8L, or buy a Core 2 Duo.

There are motherboards with Core 2 Duo + AGP support.

I think he's saying he wants to get rid of AGP and move to PCIe, but I could be wrong.

i think he means, that if he buys an x2, that hes gotta keep his current mobo, which apparently doesnt have a pci-e slot. So he wants to go for a cpu that kinda forces him to buy a new mobo. Then c2d is the way to go, k10 will be high end for a while when it comes out, and wont come cheap. AM2 is cheap too, if your into cheap :p

Damn it ur right on it!!!

I still have to decide if its gonna be am2 or core2duo though... leaning more towards a e6420 ... I just dont want to upgrade n still be behind the competition... if i chose am2... the cheap :)
decisions decisions..

Keep in mind that AM2+ chips (Agena, Kuma, Rana) will work on AM2 boards, albeit without support for HT 3.0 and HTX slots (and HT3.0 support should only be relevant for users planning to buy HTX devices).

In other words, you should be able to buy an AM2 board + chip now and plug in an AM2+ chip in Q3 2007 later. Penryn will also probably be a drop-in chip for Core 2-ready boards.
