If you're looking to replace an old VCR I personally think it's definitely worth it to upgrade to SVHS if you'd like to be able to record from a high quality source (like satellite, digital cable, DVD ) without losing as much resolution like you do with regular old VHS. I picked up a good Phillips SVHS unit at Circuit City awhile back when they were closing out one of some of their models for only $99. So that's definitely another place to look.
