I bought this set about a year ago for $350 and it is perfect for that price.
It is much more fun to watch TV now and my CDs sound great, too.
For $250 (or less) it is an even better deal.

to the people asking about the system,
i got the system a few days ago and have been using it ever since. i only have a pretty small room but i would say the volume can get pretty loud and still stay clear. i turned it up to 80 (the highest setting) and it hurts your ears. the subwoofer is huge, i would say bigger than a foot cubed and is powered w/an outlet. my only complaint is there are only two video inputs, but i use a video selector anyways, but would be nice if there were as many as for audio (5). i would have to say overall that this is a great deal for a decent low end surround sound system at an unbelievable price.

just ordered this.. i doubt it will get here before christmas, but that's okay.

i was thinking about getting the sony ht-ddw830 for $319, but found out like the JVC, does not have S-video out.. so really no reason to spend more than the JVC.

since i dont have a amex blue, i got it at etronics.com for $329 ($289 + $40 ups ground shipping to CA). will come out to $279 after rebate. not bad considering that crutchfield sells it for $399.. then again, they sell there products overpriced.

edit: opps. i got confused between composite and component.. the sony has 3 component inputs.. i dont know what i was thinking..

so the jvc doesnt have svideo or component inputs. that etronics.com is alittle misleading stating that it has svideo. check out the system at crutchfield.com. they have pics of the back and everything. only composite.

can some audiophile rate component, s-video, composite quality on a scale between 1 to 10 (10 being best)? will i notice that big a difference between s-video and composite (with good quality cables)?

i was debating between the jvc and aiwa... and i ended up with an aiwa.

AIWA HT-D580

it's got less power, but it'll do the job for me... especially at 199.99 i thought it was worth it.
it comes with all the features of jvc.. minus, s-video. of the features that i've been looking for.

it's a starter for me. i'll continue to upgrade as time goes on.

i'll probably end up replacing the center speaker as well as the front two. but this is the case if you are looking for some quality in under any $500 system.
sub woofer, i'm planning on building one with sonob. so we'll see how they all sound together.

if you guys are interested... go to bj's they have it on sale for 199.99... you don't have to wait for places to ship to you on time for christmas.

:)

<< What is BJs? >>

i believe BJ's is a east coast chain store.. people have mentioned it before in other threads. that's what i recall...

hoihtah: mind giving an little review of that aiwa ht-d580 with the included speakers when you set it all up? interested because i was originally going to get that instead of the JVC when Bestbuy had it on sale for $249. not as hot as getting it at BJ's, but still cheaper than the $299 regular price.
