Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. 5 x 100 watts for satellites and center, 100 watt 10" powered subwoofer, 1 optical, 1 coaxial input, Dolby Digital & DTS decoding, Dolby Pro Logic with DSP environments, S-video and Composite input/outputs, etc etc...

Here's a review of the system: Link

Here's JVC's page on the system: Link

Read down below for Apoc8's post to find out how to get it for $160 after AMEX Pricematch and 800.com/MSN 20% rebate

Updated title to reflect Apoc8's (or rather his girlfriend's) idea :) ... Nice job, but now I actually have to consider buying this myself for $160 ... hmm, decisions decisions :)

I am deeply offended... ;)

Actually, this seems like a decent deal... I've been interested in buying my family a cheap, mid-quality surround sound system for a while now. Is there a reason no one else seems interested? I know JVC isn't the biggest name, but it would be nice to hear some opinions other than the one review supplied (thanks LiQice).

Thanks for any info,

CK

This sounds like a great deal, been looking at a few systems and this seems to be the best value, I'd appreciate any more opinions people might have as well, thanks Liqice!

I think I just found a way to make this even better, ok it was really my girlfriend's idea but she doesn't have an account here so haha...

Anyway, buy this at 800.com with your Amex Blue and pricematch it to either of the two places mentioned in this thread. It's 399 at 800.com so add something to get it over 400 and use the MSN passport deal, this gets 80 back, plus the 50 rebate plus 110 pricematch and u end up paying 160 for this system. I definitely think I'll be doing this... let me know what y'all think

apoc8,
good deal engineering. i saw your post and ordered from 800.com with msn passport. going to do pricematch as soon as i get back from class. couldn't pass up 160$ for a digital receiver AND speakers. i hope, and think they will be good enough for my room.

This setup seems like overkill for a computer system--it's really designed to be part of a home theater. I'd go with the z560's if I were you. They should give you all the power you need (since you'll probably be sitting right in front of the speakers) at a lower price and take up less space.

Has anyone bought this with Amex Blue and gotten the pricematch with one of the low cost places? I am thinking about going for this, but want to make sure the deal will work. How good is MSN at sending out checks?

I have the system. The speakers are quite small. I replaced the center channel on it (a tad to wimpy for me) and am looking to replaced the right and left channels with some nice floor-standing ones as soon as I get the money. The receiver could use some more digital inputs and could usea more intuitive menu. Overall though it's pretty nice, but keep in mind this was my first real sound system.
Plug the optic out from your PS2 into it, pump up the volume to around 50, and play GTA3. It's immersive. The subwoofer really makes you feel like the helicopter is right above your head.

Thanks for the Hot Deal.
Here's what I come up with:
Purchase at 800.com for $399 w/free shipping
Use the MSN Passport Wallet and get an $80 check
Get a rebate from JVC for $50
Use my AMEX Blue card and pricematch with ElectronicsEMall at $279 for a credit of $120

Summary
$399
-$80
-$50
-$120
=
$149

Plus 800.com has a $50 gift card with a $300 purchase.

Can anyone give me the steps involved for pricematch with the AMEX Blue card?
I haven't even activated mine yet but in the papers sent with the card it states:
"If you see a covered item advertised in print for less within 60 days....."

Does a websites price printed on my printer qualify and do they just credit your account?

Thanks,

Keith

They are out of stock now. Hopefully they will get some more in before the MSN deal goes away.

Talked with the CSR and they do not have anymore on order from JVC, but since it is a really hot item they will check on getting more. They took my name and phone number and will let me know if they are getting anymore in, and put me on a list for one.

mspkeith,
Amex will accept a printed website, just be sure the entire address is included on the page(s). As far as the payment, they send you a check in the mail, I don't believe they will credit your account (they didn't on mine but I never thought of doing that). To get the price match, just call the number they give in your paper work and you will recieve a reference number which has to go on all paper work which you will fax to them.

Here's a deal for those of you who want to jump in on it but don't want to wait for 800.com to get back in stock (costs a little bit more, but you get more):

JVC DS-TP450 (Includes upgraded 12" 120 watt powered subwoofer):

$499.95 from 800.com : Link
-$50.00 MIR
-$154.95 Pricematch using AMEX Blue from etronics.com: Link
-$100.00 20% MSN Rebate check
--------
$195.00 after pricematch and rebates, plus you get a $50.00 gift check from 800.com!

Still a pretty sweet deal.

Have you guys considered Sony HTD-DW820 ? It's what I did a few days ago.

bought from 800.com at $399.95Link
price match with etronics.com Link at AMEX Blue - $80
rebate from MSN -$80
Total: $240.00 with free $50 GC from 800.com

In my opinion Sony makes much better receiver than JVC (you may disagree). For $40 difference, I take Sony anytime.

I haven't heard the two systems to compare, but spec wise the Sony only has a 6 1/4" 50 watt subwoofer, while the JVC has a 10" 100 watt subwoofer (the 450 model has a 12" 120 watt subwoofer). I've owned JVC electronics before (never a receiver though) and I've never had any problems. I know someone on the www.hometheatreforums.com had recommended this JVC home theatre in a box setup. Since videophile / audiophile people usually hate home theatres in a box, I was surprised to see him recommend the JVC DS-TP350. I can't find the link for his review anymore, but I'm sure if you search www.hometheatreforums.com you can find it ... Anyways, if you're not sure which to buy, just goto BestBuy, I'm pretty sure both systems are on sale and on display there.

800.com sold out of the DS-TP350, so did Crutchfield. Additionally, 800.com is no longer participating in the MSN eShop deal, although Crutchfield is. You can try calling Crutchfield and seeing if the deal still works if you backorder it. Don't forget that you can still purchase it from etronics or another store for $239 after rebate (not a bad deal if you consider the MSRP is $400 or so).

any comments/ personal experience from ordering from etronics? i was thinking about getting that sony HTB HTD-DW830 from bestbuy (or someplace else since B&M retailers never seem to have it on sale) for $399. etronics has it for $319. seems like a good deal.. or maybe that jvc htb.

peto: on a scale between 1 - 10 (10 being best), how would you rate the JVC HTB? it's better than nothing right?
