Kudo's goes to kami for giving me the idea to post this deal.

As the thread title suggests, CostCo B&M is selling the JVC DS-TP230 for $350.

As much as I hate HTF, this thread is a must read. Sounds like a great system for people on a budget.

If anyone has links to home theatre magazine reviews, please post them here.

For those out there with access to a US Marine Corp Exchange, you can find this same item for $299 and no tax. Henderson Hall in Arlington Virginia has them because I got one there for my father-in-law.

This is a good deal for someone looking for a set of digital speakers for their Soundblaster Live! Platinum 5.1s. Not only do you get the speakers, but a good receiver with optical/digital inputs, inputs for all your other stereo gear (including a turntable for those of us who remember) and to top it all off - 100 watts on 5 channels (that's each, not total!!) and 60 on the subwoofer. How many rinky dink "computer" speaker sets even come close to that? Oh geez - I may have just talked myself into buying one for myself...

P.S. And if any of you think the military exchange system is full of "great" bargains, think again. They do have the occasional good deal, but I still find the best bargains through other sources.

I'll have to agree with RBB about the Exchanges and PX's prices. Sometimes they have great deals, but mostly they can't blow out the local economy, they used to be able to do that but the local merchants were complaining a lot. So, if you're joining the military for the good shopping, you may want to think again. :) But it is a good starter system, here's a link to a review of the system by consumers:

Enjoy. :)
