Justr grabbed a used laptop off eBay.

Toshiba Qosmio G25

17" 1440x900
2GHz Pentium M 760
1GB of DDR2
2x 60GB 5400RPM hard-drives
GeForce Go 6600 128MB

Picked it up for $300.

Already have a 2GB + 1GB set of RAM on the way to replace the 2x 512MB sticks in there now.

Good deal or no?

Ought to. It needs a cooling fan replaced, but there's guides online and it seems to be a fairly common thing, I've got the part on order already.

that CPU is awfully slow =
+
the 17" screen & 2 small hard drives & old battery = not much battery life at all..

for $300?

Too much IMO. $150 is that max i would pay for an old laptop like that. Especially when you can get a brand new Netbook for that price. Sure it won't have better video as far as gaming is concerened but over all it offers more in the way of CPU, RAM and HDD space.

Eh... truth be told most notebooks of that age are going for MORE than $300, sadly. eBay, Craigslist, or otherwise. $150 tends to get you into old-as-the-hills Windows 95 / Windows 98 type stuff.

Plus I don't think I could stand having a netbook. Toooooooo small.

And somehow I doubt an Atom is faster than a 2.0GHz Pentium M. I mean the CPU in that laptop is obsolete, for sure, but I was reading some article somewhere that was showing just how slow Atoms are, and wow. 0.0
