Wonder Woman is a period piece? Sold.

Well, it should be. There is a bit at the end of that trailer when she meets a woman that is a secretary, and comments that where she is from, everyone would call her a slave.

It's a jab on the comic book history of the actual Wonder Woman character. She was created for and existed in the feminist movement of the 30s-40s and really was her own type of super hero (equal to superman), but once her character lost a bit of popularity, she disappeared and was only resurrected in the mid-late fifties, by a DC executive as, yep: a secretary for the Justice League.

I think she spent something like 15 years as nothing more than a phone operator for their club and it wasn't until, maybe, the Superfriends cartoon show that they started using her as her original character was intended--an actual superhero that was on-par with the boys (I think that ridiculous invisible jet was created at this time).

Well, somebody here has already posted a major spoiler.

To be fair, spoilers are kind of to be expected in a sequel discussion thread 😛

Also, you're not missing anything by not seeing BvS. I guess it's fine for a rental, and maybe I've gotten too picky as I've gotten older, but I thought it was a pretty dumb movie. The motivations for why they did stuff was dumb & the final monster was dumb. I guess I should put my kid-hat on & just enjoy them for what they are, but then you have all these great Marvel movies that are doing a bang-up job, so...yeah. If you want a synopsis of BvS so you don't have to watch it: (spoiler alert!)

Bad guys try to frame Superman for killing people, to make him look bad because everyone thinks he's awesome. Separately, in a flashback, Bruce Wayne sees Superman fighting Zod & blowing up buildings & blames Superman (not Zod...you know, the one actually killing everybody) for the deaths. So that's stupid motivation #1. Later, Batman is about to kill Superman with a Kryptonite sword thing & finds out their moms have the same name & flips out and they become buddies (I wish I was kidding). So that's stupid motivation #2. Then they fight the exact same-looking blob monster from the Hulk movie (Abomination), which is Zod reincarnated. Then Superman dies stopping him, but not really, and Batman decides to start a superhero club to stop space aliens, even though he's just a rich guy in a suit & doesn't have any cool superpowers. Oh, and the movie should have been called Batman With Guns, because all he does is use guns & shoots people.

If I'm going to see a $150+ million movie, it'd will have to be in an excellent quality theatre, which means here $15-$20 CAD and investing several hours of my time.

So if it gets terrible reviews, it doesn't seem worth it. However, I'd still consider watching it on Netflix or Blu-ray or something. Thanks for putting the synopsis in a spoiler tag. I won't read it. 🙂

As for Ben Affleck's acting skills, he has been nominated for BAFTA before as an actor, and he has serious film chops as a director too, since he directed Argo which won him an Oscar for Best Picture.

I can't relate to anyone who thinks Ben Affleck has acting skills, muchless a single acting skill.
That's too bad for you then. I'd take the opinion of the BAFTA voters over you any day.

Sure he might be horrible in that movie, but clearly, they liked him in other movies.

Yeah, no. And why would you take an opinion from an irrelevant group such as BFDTA...over your own? [unless of course you've never seen one of his movies and have no idea what you are talking about, and are just out to spout. 😉]

He's fine, sometimes. Sometimes no, eg. Daredevil. In the case of Daredevil though, it wasn't really him. Just about everything about that movie sucked.

And it's BAFTA by the way. You're really showing your ignorance if you don't know what BAFTA is.

Affleck did fine in batman v superman. He isn't as compelling as Bale, and a standalone Batman Affleck movie wouldn't work out too well, but he did adequately.

I personally prefer Justice League and DC over Marvel. The trailer looks a little too jokey though, and dawn of justice I could feel them slipping some compared to man of steel. Still, whatever.

I though Affleck was a great Batman in BvS. I think he was better than Bale to be honest. He was very mature and was dead on as far as the Animated JL movies go.

No Superman in the Justice League trailer? 😕

Cavill is a shit actor so let's hope he is out of it for the majority of this new movie.

Not only that, I think Snyder hates the Superman character. 😛

They have said it's a issue with having superman around for the entire thing as he overshadows everyone so much for the most part.

One can only assume he shows up in the ending part of the movie to save the day or they show him recovering at the end for future movies.

I'm actually with you there. He portrayed the grizzled middle-aged role from the Dark Knight comics nearly perfectly.
