Justice in the US = POS

please list all the countries where that would not have happened because their justice system prevents mistakes by using magic or whatever

LOL 😀

Edit: Hey, uh, it wouldn't happen in that thar Middle Eastern countries. The guy would simply not have been brought to justice, or a sentence of death would have already been carried out. 😕

She was 13 at the time, I doubt there was any malicious intent.

Also he probably will not have the ability to sue the state (nor should he - The state cannot be held responsible for the outcome of a jury trial.)

Sue the jury. Better than suing the state (where does state money come from? - I assume taxpayers?)

The jurors cannot be held responsible either, it would completely defeat the purpose of a jury trial.

I can't believe anyone would suggest something so asinine.

Do yourself a favor and learn about case precedent 😉 It is completely possible. Even I know that, and I live in Canada 😀.

Not sure about laws in California, but I don't think he would have grounds for a suit. There was no evidence of any wrong-doiong by the State. They just came to the wrong conclusion.

He's able to sue for the time and financiial loss to him, even if there's no wrong-doing on the part of the judicial system.

I believe many/most states have laws specifically exempting them from lawsuits in cases like this (or at least limiting damages). Odds are he won't get much, if anything.

blame canada....and sue them too 😛

For you guys that wonder if the guy will get any money for the years he spent in prison, it will depend on the state. I think OK, TX, and some other states will give the wrongly convicted person a certain amount of money per year times how many years he locked up.

Other states such as Louisiana, the guy will get nothing and he won't able to sue (state laws). We have a very similar situation down here about a month ago.
