So a while back I had problems with my brother's computer where it wouldn't reformat, and it kept comming up with all this errors and corrupted windows files while reformating... So today I decided to work on it again so we can sell it, and since I had already tried replacing every part of it (besides the PSU) I decided to try to the PSU and everything worked fine.

How can a PSU cause problems llike that?

By not supplying enough power to the hdd, files will be corrupted ie. files are incorrectly/incompletely copied.
Would that be because the PSU had gone bad, or is a 300w PSU too low for the following:
Celeron 2.4ghz
512mb
fx5200 128mb vid card
dvd burner
2 fans
wireless card

thats all that was it it

300 Watts would power mysystem... so no... your PSU went bad

My system:

AMD 64 3000+
2GB DDR Dual channel PC3200
ATI X850 XT
Dual 80 GB HDDs

Total wattage.. 271 i believe.

that's a 300w CONSISTENT PSU, and very few with that little wattage go through the nessecary QC to make them reliable. For that system I wouldn't put anything less than a Fortron 450 (Tsuwamono's), but still, I think your psu just went bad.
