Just Wondering... What companies do PCCHIPS own?

I heard that PCCHIPS owns 21 other companies, some of these companies have fairly decent reputations. I was wondering what they are?

So why is it, amongst all these companies capable of producing at least half-decent products, that PCCHIPS suck more than anything that has ever sucked before?

I own 2 of their boards, one of them the infamous M747 Slot1 (which, funnily enough, doesn't appear to be on their website anymore), and i'll put my 2 cents in as saying that they make the worst boards imaginable, and should never have released ANY... Thank god I only paid $10 for the one that I DID pay for...

What good is a board that, from the factory, is unable to use the parallel and serial ports without causing a BSOD or total lockup in every operating system?

Dont even try to provide a solution if you think you can - because there isn't one 😉
I actually used the board in a friends system, and tried everything you can think of to fix it - it's just a mfg fault I guess.

If there's one manufacturer that I hate - it has to be PCCHIPS.

I would never buy a PCCHIPS board just because they don't include enough features. I also enjoy BIOS tweaking and some overclocking. So for me, and I think a good number of the people on these forums, it really doesn't matter how bad they are on top of that. Thanks for the warning though.

Yeah, there's no overclocking options really... Vcore is auto, Multiplier is auto even if it wasn't locked, FSB was only 66/100, and 100 didn't work!
I only bought it because it was the only AT-form Slot1 board available at the time.

Saving the money from an ATX case turned out to be a much more costly experience...
I ended up having to buy an ATX case AND a new board 😛

On the flipside - Aopen make excellent boards 😉

pcchips is the bomb..from who else can u buy a $5 board???

i hear this all the time - if u're an enthusiast, dont' even try hating on pcchips, as they're not marketed or catered toward the enthusiast market...so i'll tell u in advance, from myself and pcchips - shut up....do it now, and forever...

anyone who starts a thread like this is more on....more on what?...

moron.

(anticipate the criess)

I'm not bombing on PCCHIPS because they don't cater to the Enthusiast. I rag on them because THE MOTHERBOARDS I GOT FROM THEM DON'T WORK. I don't care if the motherboard cost $1....if it doesn't work it's worth $0.

I believe that's the main complaint with PCCHIPS. Not that it bundles sound, video, give 3 PCI slots, etc onto the board; but because basic functions of the board don't work.

My PC Chips 810LMR is as solid as a rock. Absolutely no problems whatsoever. Cracking little board for he money, and when you get onboard graphics, sound, LAN and 56K included I think it's a great purchase for a MicroATX board. I have no other experience with PC Chips other than this though. But you wouldn't want this board for tweaking/overclocking. As a throw-together-and-leave system it's great though!

But then, I have always liked Abit too, even when everybody hated Abit, because I had always had great success with their boards. So it depends on your personal experience doesn't it?

<< PCCHIPS is yuck... >>

It's all about horses for courses, isn't it.

I built a machine to run as a web development server using the 810LMR, a Duron, 60Gb disk and 1Gb RAM. Simple to build, solid as a rock, and less than £250!

I don't tweak it, play games on it, or illuminate it with neon. Just leave it to exist in the corner.

Ahh PCChips - supplying the PC bottom-feeder for 20 years...

There was rumors a few years ago that Asus was looking at buying PCCHips..

A great marraige if you ask me.

I had an Amptron board in the days of the Pentium 1. It was one of the best motherboards I have used. Seriously!

Back in the early days of diy system builds, my bro and I had the displeasure of getting a couple PCChips mobos. He got an M-Tech 549(Socket7 VX/ K6 233) the first one was DOA, the second suffered from stability problems. I bought an Amptron 9600(ALI IV+ Socket 7/ k6-2 300) and though the board was stable, one of the serial ports wouldn't work. I've had friends whose PCChip variant boards always had some kind of port problem. My bro later bought an Asus P5A and I got an Epox mp3g-m and neither one of us has considered a PCChips mobo since.

My bro just picked up an ECS K7S5A to put into a new system build for a customer, needless to say he has his fingers crossed that the mobo will be ok.

Last I heard- Isn't PC Chips like 2nd or 3rd amongst MB makers?

Any bets that the integrated boards loved by manufactuers may well be made by them.....

A friend of mine in Cairns, QLD, Australia,

Used to work for a company whos line of 'white-box' PC's ALL used PCCHIPS mainboards.

Regardless of the features - the boards are useless!
It may well be that there are a couple of models (or a couple of boards of a particular model, more likely) that work fine, but as a general rule they are of appalling quality, unstable, tend to lack driver support in many cases, and are much worse performers than other boards in their class.

I'm an enthusiast - doesn't mean to say that all I ever buy is enthusiast hardware.
Because i'm an enthusiast, it's safe to say that I know more than your average joe about "general hardware".
So, coming from an enthusiast, PCCHIPS are the worst mainboard manufacturer I have ever encountered, and it has precisely ah heck all to do with the features that their boards carry.

They're cheap for a reason... and as for them being 'the bomb'... it's a damn good thing they dont make 'bombs' as their product; if they did we'd all be in a LOT of trouble - especially their employees 😉

PCChips is considered a 3rd tier motherboard manufacturer, and you know what that means... it's not a pretty title.
