I bought some 12v red LED's from mouser electronic supply. These baby's are uber bright. I wired them on to a fan connector from an old fan i had lying around. This was really easy and I think is definately a good alternative to expensive and power hungry cold cathodes.

Looks pretty good. Is it just one LED at front at one LED by the PSU? If so they sure are bright compared to the LED's I got in my case

Damn you. I was sure I couldn't put any more lights into my case, and now it looks like I may have to buy some blues to do something similar on the front. I'm going with the all blue look personally, since my comp is in the living room and always visible, so I don't want to go too nuts.

Those look really nice. They put out a really good red color. The problem I've had with red cold cathodes is that the ones I've seen are all more pink than red. One of my friends tried to put together a sinister looking black case with red lights inside, and the cold cathodes wound up being so pinkish that it looked more hello-kitty than satanic in the end.

As for myself, I've mostly got my case lit with 5 blue Coolermaster LED fans. Skoorb, you might want to consider putting a few LED fans in the front of your case, so you can kill both the lighting and cooling birds with the same stone. One my system it is a nice effect. Check it out.

there is one below my psu and one in the front. These are really bright LED's from mouser. I think they are the kind used in stop lights and the like because they run off 12V and they are the right size and they are incredbly bright. I realized after wiring them to a molex that you could just connect them directly to a spare floppy power connector because they are 12V and the right size.

When it is dark in the living room, I can open my drives and see really them really well. Got the "lazer led's" from Fry's Electronics for $10.99, drilled two holes in the front panel and led the cables thru them and used the foam tape adhesive on an empty slot cover, you can swivel the lights to point in any direction too. LED's manufactured by some company called MGE
