This only applies to books bought from Amazon directly, right? I buy all of my textbooks from Amazon Marketplace, which probably doesn't count.

One of my books was not bought on Amazon...Just click on the clink in the OP and key in the ISBN number on the back of the book...If it finds it, it will tell you the trade in value...

Bah, I need my textbooks to live. Seriously, I don't remember jackshit from my 4 years of undergrad, and often have to go back to notes (which I didn't organize the first 3 years) and textbooks.

I keep major-related stuff, i dont need the accounting and math books I had to buy, along with a few other texts. Ill have to look at this stuff tonight.

Damn. I just clicked the link for my first time, and Amazon automatically remembered all of the textbooks I purchased and listed the trade-in values for them. Didn't have to type anything.

What to sell, what to keep? Should probably keep my Java programming book... my Intro to CompSci book can probably go, along with my physics book. Awesome. Thanks, OP.

Good deal...The only reason I found it was that an icon appeared on the side where it normally suggest items to buy...I clicked on it and showed my text books and their values...

Very pleasant surprise...

i'd rather dump them at a library if they're worth less than ten or twenty, and pay for the shipping?

any books i don't want, i just dump them in the conveyor belt at my local library. that way, i don't have a stack of so-called 'pointless' books laying around.

Just made $100 on a couple of law school books! I graduated in 2008...it's the gift that keeps on giving!

Free shipping, btw...

Hm... I can make $100 sending back my materials science book that I will probably never look at again (and it wasn't that good anyway).

Unfortunately, I don't have anything to spend that $100 Amazon credit on, but I'm sure I'll find something (textbooks for this coming semester; maybe a blu-ray player; new burr-grinder....)

They pay for the shipping of the book to them by providing shipping labels for either UPS or USPS...

While checking on the status (to see if the Delivery confirmation numbers were active yet), I saw that they are offering me $2 for a 2011 Military Warplane Calender I bought in December for $11.00...LOL

I Love you Amazon!!!!

I dropped my textbooks TUE after work (around 5:30pm) at the post office. I just got the my emails saying my giftcard balance is now $124.99...

I am surprised more people did not know about this before. I never used it because I usually like my high value books, and I can usually get rid of most of them locally.

Plus if you look at any book now, it will list the trade-in value. I think for textbooks they try to show you the amazon price and the trade-in value together so to show you how much you will save by doing both.

So, it's been over a week now since I shipped out my textbooks via USPS, and I'm starting to get a bit worried. Amazon apparently still hasn't received them. When I log into my trade-in account, it says "ship deadline has passed" (the deadline was Jan. 11) however if I've already mailed them then I have nothing to worry about, and I'll still get the credit once the books are received.

I checked the USPS tracking link, and it says "Your item was processed through and left our DENVER, CO 80217 facility on January 06, 2011. The item is currently in transit to the destination." So... what the fuck. It hasn't gone anywhere since January 6th? If it doesn't get there by the end of the week, I'm gonna have to do something about it.

The return USPS shipping Amazon uses on the textbooks is media mail. It's one of the slowest ways to ship. They also don't always update the tracking info.

The one book I traded in went well. $100 gift card in return for it - picked up a blu-ray drive and an HD5450 for my HTPC along with Toy Story 3 for $10 ($4 credit towards the purchase b/c I used another promotion to watch it via Amazon On Demand earlier this month).

hey thanks op I have a ton of books there filling the dusty book case and i know i wont look at them again. Now i can get rid of them instead of throwing them on craplist.

Alright, thanks, that makes me feel a little better. IIRC the shipping label said the facility is in NJ, and because I live out in Utah it will understandably take longer as well.
