Here's my system:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 939
ASUS A8V Deluxe R2
PDP system Patriot memory 2x512mb pc-3200 dual channel 2-3-2-5
WD 80G SATA (x2)
IBM IDE 80G
ASUS Ge Force 32mb. from previous system.
ASUS wifi home card
Antec Sonata with True 380

I had my system up and running for about a week now and in order to get the network to work, I had to reinstall sp1(i had installed 2000 prior to xp) and then sp2. However, right after installing sp2 it started to crash. I'd get blue screen right after desktop come up. Thinking perhaps it's the memory I tried removing one stick of memory and tried them independently, but the problem was still there.

Downloaded from another machine OCZ memtest86 and ran through test7 and found no error.

At time, when rebooting I sometimes got Overclocking failed when I didn't overclock at all I had it at 'Auto'. I tried setting it in 'Standard', but same blue screen. The only think I can think of doing is try another brand of memory, but I'm not sure if that's the problem.

Could the hard drive be bad? I did notice it doing chkdsk once before when booting by itself when things were still fine.

HELP

Could be the HD but it could also be a SP2 issue. Can you try installing XP from scratch? If you want to use SP2, try and slipstream the service pack so you can do the OS and SP install at one time.

I just noticed that you can restore the windows XP to prior period and I restored prior to installing SP2 and so far desktop is holding up. I'm just afraid it'll turn blue anytime soon.
What in SP2 could have caused this blue screen problem?

Is there a good tool to examine the hard drive for any errors?

Well, after reinstalling SP2 it crashed again and now I can't even get to safe mode. Before getting to safe mode it goes blue.
Is there no way of restoring now?
I had another sata drive and I decided to install xp there, but even that's giving me the blue screen? Could it be the motherboard?
I formatted the drive as part of install, but when rebooted it gives the blue screen.

I'm really lost.... can't install, can't restore... what's up!!

I thought blue screen errors were either memory or corrupted windows crucial files. Since you can't install windows, try using other memory.

Somehow, installation started again. While installing, it said my graphics card may not be compatible with Windows XP. I have ASUS GeForce2 MX/MX 400. It said that video card has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP.

"Continuing your installation of this software may imprir or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing."

I never imagined it could be the video card. So is that what it is?

I'd double check that your memory is working, even with that error. It sounds to me like the RAM has a problem. Either you have it set too fast, or the timings are wrong, or else it's just dying,
