http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_beer

Root beer is a beverage made from some combination of vanilla, cherry tree bark, licorice root, sarsaparilla root, sassafras root bark, nutmeg, anise, and molasses among other things. Each root beer has a unique recipe. Root beer constitutes about 3% of the U.S. soft drink market. Many local brands of root beer exist and home-made root beer is made from concentrate or (rarely) from roots.

The FDA may be the "excuse" on why safrole is banned, but it is not the "real" reason why. There are much more creative things you can do with safrole and the government would rather you did not do such things.

Hahaha. Hardly. You mean making MDMA or other phenethylamines? Man... Safrole is everywhere. It would be impossible to try and control everyone from getting it.
