The Village was ok.... apparently Shyamalan removed some sounds out of the movie to move it from R-rated to PG... i would like to see the movie with the appropriate sounds.

I haven't seen The Village due to the raunchy reviews I have heard of it here and elsewhere. On the other hand I saw I Robot in the theater and really liked it.

I thought that I, Robot was a very good flick. Being an Asimov fan, I missed the movie in the theaters thinking that it be a travesty. When I finally watched it on DVD, I found that the movie actually was pretty close to Asimov's writing style, except for being a bit heavy on the action scenes and that Will Smith didn't secretly turn out to be robot himself.

You guys could actually sit through I, Robot? I tried twice and after watching Will Smith walking around in the future with a doo rag, and pimping his "Circa 2004" Converse All-Stars, I had to turn it off. That movie was like one big high priced commercial. First the Converse's, then the "future car" that just happened to be an Audi....

This is true. One comment I did make while watching I, Robot was, "Wow, there sure is a lot of product placement in this movie!"

Fixed.

I thought The Village was OK. I mean it wasn't as crappy as The 6th Sense or Signs.

I,Robot is in the Netflix Q.

The Village was an awesome psychological triller.

I, Robot...I was not impressed with it all....in fact...I remember pressing forward several times.

I like futuristic movies...but this one had a plot which I found extremely boring.

LOL.

To be fair (and I know this might be heresy to some), Asimov really wasn't the world's greatest writer. His favorite plot twist was to suddenly reveal at the end that one of the main characters was secretly a robot masquerading as a human. He had his moments with some really great stuff (like Foundation) but some others were a touch weak.
The book I, Robot itself was just a collection of some of his scifi magazine-published short stories compiled into a single book.

IMO except for the Will Smith butt shots, the product placement, some of the excess action, and the fact that Will Smith wasn't secretly a robot all along, the I, Robot movie was pretty true to Asimovian fiction. If you're upset that it wasn't that great, well... that because Asimov wasn't always that great. He just broke A LOT of new ground in scifi and was really, really freakin' prolific. IMO Heinlein was better ;) but even some of his books were a bit lacking from time to time when he needed the money.

How odd I feel exactly the same way that maddox does about Signs

Signs in a Nutshell

Sorry, now you know the ending.

HUH? Will Smith is pretty good actor and his movie success is damn good.

Shark Tale 160+ US 320 WW
I-Robot 144+ US 347 WW
Bad Boys II 138+ US 273 WW
Men in Black II 190 US 441+ WW
Ali 58 US 87 WW
Wild Wild West 113+ US 222 WW
Enemy of the State 111+ US 250 WW
Men in Black 250+ US 589+ WW
Independence Day 306 US 816+ WW
Bad Boys 65+ US 141 WW

These are his starring roles. Those numbers are in the millions, US for domestic and WW for worldwide. Independence Day and Men in Black are 19 and 32 all-time top domestic grossing movies. Those in addition to MIB II are in the top 60 with I-Day #12, as top grossing movies of all time worldwide. The box office luvs Will Smith. He is top actor plain and simple.

Yes, they made money, but all of those movies sucked IMO. I think the money they made is more due to marketing than anything. Most of his movies are those "siummer blockbuster" types that are all super hyped...

But hey, if you think he is a "good actor"...more power to you.

Well your in the minority thats for damn sure. Movies make money because of who is in them. Thats why Julia Roberts who ain't even pretty gets the most in hollywood and Will Smith is right there. Because movie goers think they are great actors and actresses. Who do you think is a "good" actor, Ben Affleck? News flash, only great actors' movies make money, its plain and simple.

No, Ben Affleck is not a "good actor". I won't argue a lot of Will Smith movies are popular, but that does not make him a "great actor". Only great actors make money? Interesting theory you have there...

Will Smith is not a great actor. He knows how to act, and how to entertain. People go to movies to be entertained. Some go because of who's in them, but many many more go because after watching the commercial they feel as though the movie will entertain them for a good 2-3 hours.

That's not a theory but fact. The best actors make the most money per film. The best actors are measured by how well their movies do at the box office. That is just the way it is. Will Smith ain't no Tom Cruise or Tom Hanks, but I think he's in the top 10-12 though.

Well, we will just have to agree to disagree. Making money is not the sole standard I judge actors on...

Movies can be hyped so much that they make a ton of money on people who bought into the hype. Just becase they pulled in a lot of money does not make the people in them "great actors" I judge actor/actresses on how they actually act in the movie, not how popular or how much money it makes. Some of the best movies are not the most popular because they usually require critical thinking skills to enjoy, unlike most Will Smith movies which just have lots of special effects and stupid jokes...

Well tell me who you think is a good actor? If his movies don't make any money then he can't be that good of an actor. You can't have one without the other. Will Smith has 10 movies that have been hits at the box office so its got to be more than just special effects and stupid jokes.

Harrison Ford, Robert DeNiro, and Jack Nicholson are a few.

Of course...Will Smith is probably better...I mean just looking at the Bad Boys movies ALONE. :p
