Just watched Hero...

Dude.. I thought that movie was awesome. I liked the story line, the directing, the actors... everything. I liked it a whole lot more than Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

The one about the plane crash, right?

I thought it was lame.
Nope, this is a new one with Michelle Yeoh. It's a Kung Fu movie.

/edit WHOOPS! Nope, I was thinking about The Touch. Sorry. 😕

Michelle Yeoh was in it? Where?

Maggie Cheung plays Flying Snow and Zhang Ziyi plays Broken Sword's servant.

go watch time and tide, senseless but awesome violence🙂
Yeah! It had an extended firefight-in-a-tenement sequence that was even better than the one in Leon (The Professional). One of the best non-Woo firefights in a HK film, right up there with the ending battle in A Better Tomrrow II.

this movie is more drama than action. if you like drama, then you'll like the movie. i think a lot of people didnt like it cuz they expected a lot of fighting. i was disappointed, but my dad loved it.

I LOVE this movie. I bought it in europe and have watched it at least a dozen times and I'm not usually a big fan of subtitled movies. It's somewhat confusing the first time around if you're not paying attention.. but it gets better everytime you watch it.

Hero is an incredibly simple movie. But I liked it cause I have not seen a movie with more beautiful cinematography. The action is cool, it's CTHD action done better, (Jet Li Vs. Donnie Yen is pretty damn cool) the storyline is serviceable but plenty predictable, the ending doesn't satisfy mainstream American viewers because the Chinese do not require happy endings in their movies like Americans do, the rest of it is rather sericeable.

The bottom line is that it is a serviceable Wu Xia movie that has been enhanced by above average action and truly excellent cinematography.

For a fun storyline, go check out Infernal Affairs.

you say it's "servicable" - did you see the cut version or the full version?

MiramAxe forced the director to cut out a lot of the movie for its original release.

Anyone else think Crouching Tiger wasn't all that great except for the lush colors? hehe. I've seen hundreds of fighting movies and that wasn't that great except they tried to be really serious and use nicer cameras. Hero was really good, took the Crouching Tiger cinematics and added an actually interesting story line. I really think Jet Li should do all the old school chinese fighting, not Chow Yun Fat (he should always have guns ala Hard Boild 😀). Jet Li in the Wong Fei Hong series = the best hehe. Although I have to admit the CG was a little over done (hundreds of arrows being blocked? hehe) but still there was a lot of good use of it (the water!!!)

Got a question for all of ya. Where can I get my hands on the movie "Hero"?

I checked the video store and they didn't have anything.

Please let me know. Thanks

i agree totally

i thought Yi Yi was the superior asian film that year. crouching just seemed a little pretentious and boring. all the critics going ga ga over the elegant wire work was a bit sick. i think they found it novel because they rarely watch asian films is all.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/Hero-10001021/

yup 100% fresh on rotten tomatoes.

theatrical release in november for US. definetly going to see this one in the theater, the choreography is good, the cinematography is very good. it was pretty kewl🙂 i didn't like crouching tiger either.

seems hk films/anime influenced the matrix, and well i kinda see how the matrix returned the favor here. not bullet time, but a little bit of anime like fight scene shot composition/editing.

a lot more fighting then crouching tiger, so those that were put off by the yapping in that film will be happy🙂

and itzak perlman plays on the soundtrack🙂

watched it some days ago. it's awesome to look at, but the fights are kind of basic compared to CTHD. also if you get a little in the meaning of colors in chinese culture it might help😉
