Just watched a Hard Drive Destroyer demo!

This is so cool!
So I just attended a demo for this thing. It's amazing! Puts out over 6500 lbs. of force and destroys a drive in less than 15 seconds. This is a sure-fire way to be sure no one gets access to personal and confidential data stored on business hard drives and such. Plus, it's just cooler than beating the crap out of a hard drive with a sledge-hammer.

Agreed, but it gets old when you recycle well over 100 machines a month.

I helped decommision a whole crapload of classified computers once. We had to physically open up the drive and remove the platters which were placed in a big canvas bag. This was then beat on with a hammer. The result was couriered to a facility on the other end of the country to be incinerated.

That's another option, but I like the machine. It's conducive to my fatass-ness. I can sit in a chair in an air-conditioned office and get my comfortable on while i do this, lol.

Driving over a HDD doesn't do anything other than maybe scratch the case. Using a sledge hammer is fun. Reformatting? :laugh: oh man, you're funny

We've got a machine at school which can apply well over 100,000 lbs of force on stuff. It's sweet watching it pull inch thick pieces of steel apart!
