... pretty amazing film in my opinion. I heard it mentioned so many times in the last couple days that I thought I ought to find out if it was worth all the commotion.

I think it is. I didnt find it particularly disturbing, but very thought provoking instead.

I still need to digest it more before I form any more concrete opinions, but it did make me think, and I always like movies of that sort.

Anybody else like it or hate it? Or somewhere in between?

It is a good movie though not nearly as disturbing now as it was when it came out. We have become numb to unnecessary, gratuitous violence in its day that was still uncommon.

I wrote a 10 page paper on A Clockwork Orange in a Psych class I had freshman year in collage. The whole behavior modification bit and nature vs nurture. It is one of my favorite movies.

You are now a murderer little Alex!

How did you like the Ultra-violence?

I thought it was a pretty interesting film as well. I noticed that the movie "Trainspotting" used the same bar backdrop when Spud and Tommy were talking to one another in that Volcano bar.

The creates the atmosphere of a post coldwar world eastern bloc style England so much better. Especially with the interspersed use of Russian roots in the language. Good stuff!

As a side bar: It was the only X rated movie ever nominated for an academy award.

Wrong. Midnight Cowboy was rated 'X' AND was not only nominated (5 times) but won an academy award for 'best picture' and 2 others (best director and screenplay).

AFTER it won, the MPAA changed the rating to 'R'.

BTW, I saw Clockwork Orange when it first came out just after High School at it's premiere in London after reading the book.

I remember watching that move as a young kid. The benefits of having cable tv in your bedroom at a young age. I must say I didn't understand a lot of it at that age..

It's an excellent film. I believe it's still banned in the UK. As was already pointed out, it's not all that extreme in this day and age, but back in the 70s it was pretty explicit.

I just love the atmosphere Kubrick creates in his films. The sets in this movie are superb, and the acting is top-notch. Kubrick had a real eye for "disturbing imagery" and there are quite a few such scenes in ACO.

Oh, and for those who have already seen it, watching the cat lady scene with that giant, uh... member always gives me a chuckle.

One of my top five favorite films of all time. The new remastered DVD looks and sounds teriffic... now if they could re-release it a third time with some supplements I'd be a happy man.

P.S. I agree that everyone should read the novel by Anthony Burgess. Not so much better than the movie but different.

kubrick banned it from being shown in england because it was said to ignite violence. but he did say that after he died that this ban would no longer exist and i think you can see it in england now.

HaHa!

I burst out laughing at this line. So many classic lines...

The language is wonderful, and the British accents are great.

I think I will follow the general concensus and read the book.

I believe it was shown in England at least for a short time (now I can't remember if I saw it in Dublin or London) but there was some violence from the just then emerging skinhead gangs and it was banned from further showing.

Arghh, I tried to read the book but couldnt get past the 10th page, my brain just shut down. considering I had just done spanish revision, I was in no shpae to begin translation exercises mentally. Is the film like that as well?
