just turned on my comp for the first time today.

ASUS P5E x38
E2160
HD3870
Ballistix 2gb(2x1)

opened up core temp and got the following

L2 revision
1.325 v
core#0: 38
core#1: 38

is that normal? packaged on 10/17/07.

i plan to overclock this to about 3ghz.

funny thing is that when i use CPU-z, i get 1.296 as Core Voltage. that seems a bit different from core temps 1.325

I'm betting the P5E will be among the really good ASUS motherboards into the next year.

In the last go-around, it took BIOS revisions for the Striker and P5N32 boards to reconcile the difference between "set" voltage, monitored voltage, and actual voltage. I thought I recalled reading somewhere that this was not a problem limited to the nForce chipsets, either.

As to what the software reports, there is a CPU VID value which the processor brings to the table. Your motherboard, with an "Auto" vCore setting, will show some particular monitored value.

I'm not familiar with the E2160 Intel processor, but more information about safe voltage ranges and safe operating temperature ranges would be available in the specification document on the Intel web-site.

That's because CoreTemp lists the VID voltage, which is the default setting burned into the chip. CPU-Z measures the actual vcore that the chip is recieving, which, due to vdroop, is usually less than the setting.

For example, I have 1.425 set in BIOS, and I get 1.36 under load.

alright. just read the sticky guide and took down the notes. wasn't able to find everything in the bios, but got most of it and set the fsb to 300 with 3:4 divider. loosened timings to 5-5-5-5-15-2T. working good so far. bout to prime95 test it.

couldn't find latest version of prime95. just ran SP2004 for 30 minutes, passed no problems. load was 72C, is that bad? im gonna try and lower Vcore tomorrow and maybe run SP2004 overnight.

so i got my arctic cooling freezer 7 pro, installed it. turned my comp on, went MAX speed, all the way to 2700 rpm. kinda noisy. i go into bios, set the q-fan to quiet. but now, its running the cpu same as the stock cooler at 44-45C. how do i manually adjust the CPU fan. i tried using speedfan, but it didn't detect it.
