We had a rear projection old@$$ 60" Pioneer TV from Costco, probably circa 1998. My mom thought it was uber quality because Pioneer was a pretty good brand compared to Sony for rear projections. I believe after sampling a lot of TVs, I determined that Pioneer and Mitsubishi had the top image quality.
So I guess my mom believed in that for the longest time and even though sub 40" TVs like Sony Wegas kicked our TV's ass and HDTV was breaking through, my mom thought that our TV was still the sh!t.
It was pretty hard to convince her that HDTV was a huge difference until I showed her the resolution difference.
So 3 weeks ago my mom showed me how our TV had a double image So my mom sent out an email to my uncle and to me about a possible list of TVs. I didnt think she was serious, but apparently soon after our TV completely died (can't even turn on), and so I told her the Sony XBR2 was pretty good.
Well, we went to Best Buy a few days ago and then she was ready to buy. She kinda wanted a 720p Plasma simply cuz it looked better (plus they were feeding 720p content only), but I figured 1080p is more futureproof, so I pushed for the LCD. Well she said ok, and we actualyl bargained and got it for $3800 and tack on a $100 discount for getting Comcast HDTV.
Anyways, I have to go home on Wed now because my parents want me home to help with the setup, and I'll post pics then..
Yay. I'm actually pretty excited =)
