you guys/gals with the ancient burners should check out hot deals. there's going to be some cheap deals on cdrw (mostly 16x cdrw drive) for the after-thanksgiving sales..

i myself just got an AOpen 24x cdrw and am quite happy with it. still getting used to the fact that i can burn a cd in a few minutes (compared to my 4x cdrw).

I got a liteon 24X retail for $96 a couple weeks back. This to replace a 2X which didn't have underrun proof :) Burning at 24X with IDE knowing you won['t have any coasters is pretty nice!

Me and my 8x8x24x Yamaha are doing just fine. She burns fast enough for me so I don't need no stinking upgrade....yet.

I've had a Plextor 12/10/32 since they came out. 24X would be nice, but I don't need it... Next upgrade should be a DVD-R.

<< Namuna: which make and model do you have? >>

I had the TDK VeloCD 12/10/32 and upgraded to the TDK VeloCD 24/10/40.

Bought the new drive at Bestbuy for $149.99 and there's a $20 Mail-in-rebate from TDK as well...So it comes out to $129.99.

But this isn't even a 'hotdeal', the Lite-On branded 24x burners can be had for ~$100 or less.

<< Burning a CD at 3.6mb a sec, FULL 700mb CD burned in a little over 3 minutes!!! Oh sweet Aunt Jemimas' buttucks that's fast!

This is coming from a guy who had a 12x burner before (TDK 12x VeloCD to TDK 24x VeloCD).

Sorry to gloat, but I just wanted to share my giddiness!

I have a 16x Plextor that I really like. Anything over 16x involves speed switching (except on Yamaha's, but I hate them) and I'm a bit skeptical about them. Plex 16x is as high as I'm gonna go. 5min per disc is pretty good.

There's a 24x writer somewhere in the house. Its same as VeloCD. They're both made by Sanyo. I don't hardly ever use it.
