THe 40GNX 5400rpm drive is great!!!! Loading programs is SO much faster now, and I only have 256MB memory and the cpu is only 800mhz. I am running windows XP by the way.
As for the noise level, it's not that much louder than the older 4200rpm. I don't notice it anyways. Even if it's a teeny tiny bit louder, you notice it less because the HD spins less frequent and when it does spin, it's for a short burst.
