Just upgraded from VCR to dvd recorder...

Hello everyone, I have an older directv sir-ts360 samsung receiver which has vcr IR recording. When I had my vcr it was so easy to record something, I would just leave the machine off and just press two buttons on the programming guide and it would be all set. Now that I have a dvd recorder, the VCR IR recording function doesn't work when I try all the philips codes. So I have to press the two buttons to make sure the receiver tunes to the channel. Then I have to set up the recording timer on the dvd recorder. This is a major pain! Is there any easier way to set this up? I've heard of IR blaster or something of that nature.
