Hello,

I upgraded from a gf3 to a radeon x800 xl...and I'm noticing some problems which I hope some of you could help me out with.

1) Whenever I try scrolling down through a webpage, I notice the video card having a difficult time "updating" right away.... ie, it will take a split second to scroll down, and it's very choppy..

Also, whenever I drag a window across my desktop, it will also be very choppy... this wasn't happening under my gf3 card.

2) I tried testing the radeon card by running a few games (ie, America's Army), and I get an error message indicating I need to somehow enable Direct 3d acceleration.

I then went to the run command, ran "dxdiag", and went to the "Display" tab. I noticed that Direct3d Acceleration and AGP Texture Acceleration were "Not available", with no option to enable them.

I have the DirectX 9.0c installed along with the latest ATI drivers (Catalyst from ATI's website). Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks in advance.

im pretty sure you did not install the drivers correctly,

first uninstall all the drivers, run driver cleaner then install the new ati

make sure any nvidia remnants are gone this way

slow refresh and no d3d looks like driver problem

It appears by the description and errors that the drivers did not install properly.
Perform the following:
1) Go to My Computer, Control Panel, Add/remove programs.
2) Look for nvidia ...
3) Select Remove.
4) A box should come up with certain options to uninstall. Select video drivers only.
5) Select Ok.
6) When prompted to reboot select no.
7) Select ATI Software Uninstall from that same Add/Remove programs menu.
8) Select the default prompts.
9) Reboot.
10) When windows start select cancel to the 2 add/remove hardware wizards. When finished run the ATI driver install. Make sure you have microsoft .net package installed prior to doing so. Make sure that the driver you downloaded was the Catalyst Control Center package. https://support.ati.com/ics/support/......ID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293
11) Reboot when prompted.
12) If successful when your machine reboots the windows 2d gui will not be accelerated for a few seconds or minutes. You will see your screen flash twice and then that will complete the install and 2d gui should be accelerated.

If you already performed these steps with the same results you can try:
1) DriverCleaner Pro from www.driverheaven.net. Run this utility before step 10. Clean nvidia as well as ATI.
2) Make sure your chipset drivers for your motherboard are loaded. Example Via, Nvidia, Intel, Sis, and ULI.
3) On that dxdiag select disable if the option appears followed by enable.
