Whether it's of any interest to anyone or not, today I upgraded from a dreadfully slow 56k dial-up connection that averaged 3kb/s download speed to ADSL and JESUS CHRIST i was almost in tears. It's connecting at 571kb and downloads have hit a max of 55kb/s on Kazzaa. I tried Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory to see how a game ran and where before it looked like a holiday slideshow it now runs silky smooth at full detail. Did anyone else feel the same unbridled sense of heartfelt joy when they upgraded to ADSL (slightly over the top way to describe it but...)? OK OK i know it's not the most ground-breaking thing on earth but as a moderate internet user it's like heaven here on earth, YAY! A 150MB movie (guess which type, lol ;)) downloaded in mere minutes! I am one HAPPY bunny! :D:beer:

Yeah, I was just thinking that. My cable connection is supposed to be upgraded to 3Mbit soon. I'm at 1.8Mbit right now. My downloads currently go at 220KB/s

When I came to college my jaw dropped the first time I downloaded anything. I was getting like 300K. Now I'm in an apartment with 1.5Mb DSL and it's still pretty fast. I go home to my dad's 512kb DSL and I just about fall asleep. I die on dialup. And this has just happened in the past 3 years. My boss gets mad at me at work when I complain about how slow the T-1 connection is. :)

edit: congrats, man

Where I live, broadband become available only just last November. So, I switched from 56k to 1.5/256 DSL then and I don't see myself going back any time soon. The problem is, since it is the only broadband available here, they've jacked up the price. I'm paying 65/month for this service. I plan on trying to negotiate here in the future since my contract runs out in November to see if I can get a lower rate or I may be going back to dial up. I don't really know what I'm going to do if they call my bluff.

you all realize we have it pretty bad right? even with 1.5/256 DSL we're generations behind places like Korea/Japan. They have a FAT pipe running to their homes all for about the same price we pay. No sure on the numbers but they can get DVD quality VoD for god sakes.

How does your internet connection have anything to do with 3d graphics performance?
