I was looking at Macans a while back at the Porsche dealer here and actually preferred the regular Macan over the Macan S. I couldn't seem to justify the major price gap between the two models for what I believe is a ~70hp difference. I guess if you cared about the trim level enough it might matter but to me I couldn't rationalize it in my mind.

The regular Macan isn't out yet, you're probably thinking of the Turbo S.

In the Macan S, your money gets you a 340 HP 3.0-liter twin turbocharged V6, while the Macan Turbo steps up to a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 good for 400 HP. The former gets round tailpipes, while the latter switches them to trapezoids, and there are different standard-fit wheels and brakes. Both have the same all-wheel drive system with an electronically controlled, multi-plate clutch, and a seven-speed, double-clutch transmission with tactile, solid metal paddle-shifters.
The 3.0-liter engine is good for 339 lb-ft of torque, a top speed of 156 mph, and a 0-60 mph run in 5.2 seconds. The bigger 3.6-liter raises that to 406 lb-ft, cuts the 0-60 time to 4.6 seconds, and tops out at 164 mph.

If I were driving the Macan I would have gone for the Turbo S because I'm an idiot, but since the wife will be doing 99% of the driving in it she would rather spend the money on new pavers for the lanai or some other useless crap LOL.

Curious to hear how about the PDK reliability; I've been thinking about a 997 cab to replace our aging A4.

I would think those fixed buckets would get a bit old for a DD, though they do look awesome.

Congrats! Even though I'm biased to seeing the S5 go, it's good that you're keeping it in the VAG family =D

The new version of the PDK is supposed to be rock solid (in the Macan) The 997.2 is updated and, again, supposed to be improved. I was asking a dealer about it, they told me that they get very few complaints and/or issues regarding the 2nd gen PDK and up. If I hang on to the car I will get a extended warranty.

One thing for sure is that it's a blast to drive, the shifts in sport+ mode are remarkably hard and fast.

The seats are very comfortable, they suck you in. It won't be an issue for me at all.

Poster is from Russia. I do believe the Macan is available in some European markets with an i4 gas or diesel engine.

I have one on order for my wife as well. Taking delivery in October-ish.

OP - how do you/your wife like it so far?

She loves it, she was really hesitant to give up her beloved 328, but after a day with it she's hooked in a big way. It's a pleasure to drive, puts a smile on your face and still retains some utility. Perfect choice for her - she's forever picking up crap at yard sales or Lowes and really needed something that was easy to load/unload, but (like me) doesn't really like a large vehicle.

Can I ask about the seats? I got the same with my build (PP+) for the 14-way ones. Didn't get a leather package or anything, but was curious if you are happy with those...I wasn't a huge fan of the 8-way, and the side-bolsters were a bit much for the wife, although I liked them. :p

We got a similar build, but no infotainment or Bose. Added AS/PASM/PTV+ for when we are back up-north later this year and got black interior. Getting it in sapphire blue.

Seats are very comfortable and have enough adjustments to suit me - I could have lived with the 8 way and saved the money - Bose is overrated, but sounds nice, I think they purposely put crap standard systems in just so you'll upgrade (I have standard system in my 911) - PCM is awesome, I think it's worth the money. I'll be interested in hearing what you think about the performance options - my wife would never use them and I don't drive it enough to care.

If I had ordered this car I might have added sports-chrono, but other than that it's really just about where I would have been. Well... maybe Agate Gray w/red interior given the choice. ( I really don't care about colors as long as it's not stupid. )

Cool, thanks for the extra info! Can't wait on my end, should be a fun vehicle.

Regarding the sport chrono, you can order the software and have that installed at the dealer. It will work exactly the same, just will not have the chrono on the dash.

Thanks! I have a clock in the dash, so it works out

Compared to what?

Macan is an awesome grocery getter. It's really a great choice if you want something sporty but somewhat practical

I have a Macan. It's hot garbage. Especially side by side with a real Porsche like your 911.

I know, but at I got a smoking deal on it so I can't really be too picky. And the PDK has a better resale for some stupid reason.

It's also faster from 0-60 and around a track for some stupid reason. I suspect it's part of the global conspiracy against manuals.

Could be a global conspiracy or maybe that pesky technology improving our lives. Either way, I'd still rather drive a manual.
