take that? You still handed over cash to get it. It's more of a take that Cingular/AT&t.

well he'd already bought the phone before i came. so least i could do was prevent him from having to go to at&t

Offtopic: Does the unlocking software turn off automatic updates? Can you set it up so that you only update the iPhone when you want to and can just wait to see if the updates brick the phone?

T-mobile has $30 unlimited internet + hotspots, pretty good deal.

How fast is it?

That might be a problem if you are dumber than a rock.....

And they do not "send" updates, you have to install them and to stop that just uncheck the auto updates, what a concept huh...

And you can get the t-mobile unlimited data plan for $20 a month or you can try the t-zones trick but it seems risky, the data plan works great for me.

I love my unlocked iphone...

It's $20 unlimited internet + hotspots. :) They lowered prices on it back in... mid Sept. ish.

As far as speed, as near as we could tell by checking various speed websites with iPhones running AT&T and T-Mobile, it's basically the same speed on both - although AT&T seemed to have a very slight speed advantage (about 10% faster). They were both about 120-240kbps depending on where you are, how many bars, etc. Most of the time, I have about 180kbps or thereabouts.

You can turn off automatic update checking in iTunes by going to Edit->Preferences and unchecking "Check for updates automatically". If you do this, then there's no danger of making your iPhone an iBrick.

Besides, Apple had a huge warning thing on the 1.1.1 update that said in bold letters that the update could affect phones that had been unlocked and you had to click an "I acknowledge and understand and agree" button to continue updating. It wasn't like they were at all sneaky about it.

When you tap on NES emulator it sould tell you where to place games. You will need to create couple of folders manually using iBrkr or whatever you use for file browing. Games must be in standard .NES format. But the way, IMO NES emulator blows.

You tell them to "TAKE THAT" when you tell Apple and companies alike it "Screw your hip trendy sht I am buying my products from a company that treats it's customers as free and intelligent beings (i.e Nokia)". The money is already at apple, Steve Jobs is rolling green fatties with your bro's cash as you read this.

How did you unlock it?

I have the old AT&T plan and they are being a-holes. I can't use my original AT&T SIM in an IPOD. I have to get a new contract.

They can BURN.
1000 minutes for $69.99 family plan = hot. I ain't changing.

Yes, you can use it with your original AT&T plan, no need to unlock it. You'll just need to "activate it" with third-party utility. I suggest heading over to howardforums.com and reading up in their iPhone unlocking/modding forum, it's really easy to do.

As AnyMal said, you don't need to unlock - you just need to activate. A much easier and less scary process. And also easily reversible.
Slide the emergency call button, and dial *3001#12345#*
This is the "field test". Give it a sec to come up and then click on Versions at the bottom.

If it reads:
Firmware version: 04.01.13_G
then follow these instructions: http://jailbreakme.com/safari.html

If it reads:
Firmware version: 03.12.06-G or
Firmware version: 03.14.08-G
Then download and install this on Windows: http://www.nullriver.com/~adam/AppTappInstaller.exe
Or MacOS: http://www.nullriver.com/~zigzag/AppTappInstaller.zip
Make sure you have iTunes 7.4 or higher for either one.

If you don't like it, or want to undo either of these, just do a factory restore.

1.1.2 will likely be released in the US in the next 10 days - most likely Friday 11/9. Don't upgrade to it - you'll lose the activation and no one will know how to activate it for a while.
