I just recently took my ASVAB, there was one section when filling out your information.
It was, Future Plans. 2 Year College, 4 Year College, Military, Undecided.
There was a pretty hot chick next to me, that asked me if i can fill in the Military
bubble also. Now that the tests have been checked, and distrobuted among the branches of
military, I am getting calls. Luckly, I put my cell phone number in case. From what i
am hearing from the Military recruiters, I scored pretty high. The reason why i took it
was to see how smart I was and to see which branches of military would call me. So far,
I have gotten a call from, Army, Army National Guard, Marines, & Air National Guard.
This is where it takes a twist, everyone single one of them wanted to make a *date* with
me during lunch or after school. I know i should go because they buy you lunch out side
of the school caf. I know its a mean thing to use them, but hey, might as well take
advantage.

Anyone know how i can have fun with them? ANy lines i can say to them, to make them regret calling me. So far, I have done, "i do too many drugs", I asked about the "don't ask don't tell policy" Any thing else you guys wanna reccomend?

Thanks!

Word to the wise. If you aren't joining the military tell them to leave you alone. They will bug the hell out of you. They called and called and called me when finally the Air Force recruiter called me at 7:00 am one morning and I told him I'm joining the Marines.

Anyway our military is hurting so if you aren't going to join don't waste their time. They could be using it to recruit people that actually want to.

Well, majority of the people in our school that want to join never passed the ASVAB to begin with. So Just want to have a little fun with them.

They're not telemarketers, you don't need to be rude. You got yourself into this. Hot chicks just get you into trouble, find a nice ugly one.

Yeah the same happened to me... they said I placed top 5% or 2% in the sciences and the Navy wanted to stick me in a nuclear sub. The recruiter said he'll guarantee me E-4 pay right out of boot camp. But then again I've heard too many horror stories of recruiters lying their arses off just to get you to enlist.

When the recruiter meets you for lunch just tell him you think he's cute and wink at him. That should make him drop everything and run. If he doesn't, I suggest you drop everything and run for the hills!:)

The Navy wanted to put you in a nuclear sub huh. that must be an interesting story. I wouldn't trust them too much. Espeically if they want to recruit you that badly. They will lie just about anything to get you to sign on the dotted line.
I guess he was trying too appeal that staying underwater for months on end is cool.

hehe, Maybe I should give this one a try. I would laugh if it backfires, and starts hitting on me. That would be Evil! :Q

I didn't know how many other stories like mine exist.

It's true I really do only have one kidney.
And because of it I couldn't get into the Air National Guard :(

Don't mess with them. Just tell them you're not interested. One day a recruiter guy came to my school, and he was in my class, asking some questions, most of which I was answering alone. He asked me my name, and when I told him, his face turned INSTANTLY serious and concentrated, and he said... RICKY TURNER? Do you know what you made on the ASVAB? "No idea?" I told him. "Son, you got 100% on that test." He checked through the papers and confirmed it, just to make sure who he was talking to. "You have any interest in going into the military?" NONE WHATSOEVER, I told him. ALL he said was "Yeah...I thought not." --And carried on. :) I LMAO at that one. Needless to say, I got TONS of calls that year. I don't really remember when they stopped, but I remember how sad they were. They were always telling me about my classmates (by name) who had enlisted. "Do you know Andy Cook?" "Yeah..." I would think to myself... "that retard who only wakes up long enough in class to get suspended every couple of weeks?" "He's joining! What do you think of that?" "Figures...." ;)

But I agree. Don't waste their time if you are not interested. I think it is a GREAT option for many people. I just didn't happen to be one of them. Everybody has their place in this world, and if you find it, it will be as important as any other. My place, though that recruiter didn't know it, was the create the special effects in the movies he will be watching on leave. All the know-how that scored me high on the ASVAB translates into understanding, vision, and ability to create effects that will really convince and entertain him when he goes to the movies.
Your place may or may not be on the front lines, or in some nuclear sub, or in the cockpit of a fighter jet. But let me say, if you decide it is none of those, then your place is DEFINITELY NOT at some restaurant getting a free lunch from this guy just to embarrass him or waste his time/money. Be an adult, be upfront, and don't get a handout lunch. It's NOT VERY CLASSY.

You do not score a 100% on the ASVAB. It is broken down into several areas, so you get 4 or 5 seperate scores. Also, on some of the test, it is imposible to finsih it since is timed and there are too many questions. It tests your tolerance to stress.

As far as messing with a recruiter, bad idea. That is a very demanding job, that keeps you away from your family trying to recruit people. That time you take from him, he could be using it to recruit someone who wants to come in, and use that extra hour to see his kids.

Bottom line, a recruiter who does not fill the quota of new recruits is "fired" and forced to move back into their original career field, probably have to move to a different base, and it does not look good when it is time for promotion.

Grow up and stop being a loser. If you want a free meal go fill our an application at McDonalds.

The military is having a hard time recruiting and keeping people in because of the job market. The military does not do away with the work if there are not enough people, they just make the people they have work until is done. We don't get paid extra for hours either.

Oh, that's right, youareaweaklink. You nailed me. I didn't score a 100% on the test. I have a reason to lie about some stupid sh1t like that. Give me a break. I know for a fact that I DID indeed finish every section, and though I never viewed my scores, the man told me I got 100% on the test. Did I really? I don't know. I only go by what he told me, and the fact that I rebuilt my first carbouretor at the age of 8, my first DOHC 16-valve engine at 16 (the kind of skills that are REPEATEDLY tested in the ASVAB), scored in the 98th percentile on my college entrance tests, consistently test in the top 2% worldwide in IQ tests, and maintained a college record in the top 5% of my class every semester in the hardest program the school has to offer. But none of that matters, except to morons like yourself who see to it that everyone who may represent a stronger intellect than yours is shot down and ridiculed so that you can appear the brightest. How sad.

I just could never tolerate that kind of blind obedience. I question authority too much.
(according to my mom, I'd argue with a stop sign)

Can't just say "sir yes sir, plunging into deadly nothingness because you said so sir!"

Mitch Hedburg, my favorite standup comic, says,

"I didn't join the military, because 'at ease' was never all that easy for me. When I'm relaxing, I do not do it by standing with my legs spread slightly, with my neck straight and my arms behind my back. For me, 'at ease' is NOT BEING IN THE MILITARY."

I did well on the ASVAB also, but I soon found out that it didn't mean much. A marine recruiter called me to see if I wanted to join. I already been accepted to the college I wanted but I didn't want to be narrow minded so I went to see what he had to offer. I took another test on the computer at his recruiting station. It was just some algebra questions and english comprehension questions. I got 98% (my finger slipped for one of the questions!). The recuiter sees my score and goes,"Wow....that's pretty damn high. You qualify to join the marines. The marine requirement is 42% and the national requirement is 36%." 36-42%???? OMG...these people are the ones defending our country! Don't get me wrong, I have only the highest repspect for marines but 36%-42%? Doesn't make me feel too special.

I agree if your not interested, don't waste the recruiters time. He has alot of other lunch appointments to make with people who are really interested in joining.

To show you that it's not good to mess with the recruiters, I moved away for college and didn't tell the recruiter I left. The recruiter kept calling my house and my father told him, "HE'S GONE FOR COLLEGE....DON'T CALL HERE NO MORE!" 3 weeks later, I come back home for my best friends birthday. Two days after I leave to go back to college, the recruiter calls again! This time my mother picks up and tells the recruiter I went away for college. The recruiter asked my mother, "He left? I thought he just back?" That spooked me for a couple days since I told only my parents that I was coming home. Beware..

DesignDawg:

Just because you got busted "stretching" the truth, there is no need to be angry.

It is required for you to be given a "grade card" from the test. Every person who takes that test has a list of their scores.

You have to remember that there are military people at Anandtech to.

Youareaweaklink.

Now see, we have officially crapped on this thread. I don't give a rat's ass. You are MAILED a score card, which I did not get. My parents did. If it makes you feel better, I did terribly on the test. Didn't finish. Ran out of the room crying. As I stated, I don't CARE. If you feel the need to carry this on, do it in PM's, because I seriously doubt anyone else besides you is wasting time at 3:00 in the morning making sure nobody pretends to have scored perfectly on a pointless, easy test where a score of 42 makes you one of "the few, the proud." See what I'm getting at? If you will sleep better, I will make a retraction and start a new topic telling everyone that I'm a fraud who has to lie about ASVAB scores despite the solid reputation I have managed to build without it. Just let me know.

P.S.-- And by the way, anything can be measured in percentages. Whether or not that is the convention used or not, I don't know or care. Like I said, I only know what the guy told me, and seeing as how I was sitting in a class where all scores are based on a 100% scale, maybe he felt more comfortable using that convention? Maybe he was trying to bolster confidence and get a new recruit? Who gives a damn?

Just tell them that you enlisted in another branch and they will not call again. I got 4 perfect scores, 95 then, and they would not leave me alone.

Got my draft notice while in Air Force basic training. REALLY confused my TI.

Here's a little insight on recruiting from a former Army recruiter.

Nearly all recruiters were a soldier, sailor, airman or marine and were selected by their respective branch of service for this duty. A few volunteer. All recruiters are sent to a six week or longer school in order to train them on enlistment paperwork and sales skills.

They canvass high schools and colleges searching for potential applicants in the 17-25 year old catagory. The high school ASVAB is a tool used by recruiters to assist in this search. Anyone between the ages of 17-34 yrs 11 months old can join providing they meet the qualifications.

As far as the free lunch goes, Army recruiters receive a monthly expense allowance to cover that.

There is no 100 percent score on the ASVAB. The perfect score is 99. Based upon math and english questions. There are other scores broken down by the various services for job placement.

Because of the booming economy, recruiting is tough duty. The services aren't meeting their recruiting goals for an all volunteer military.

eia430: If a recruiter said you qualified for E-4 paygrade, it would be because you have a Bachelors degree. Or considerable documented experience for the job they would like to place you in. Or maybe the Navy has some guaranteed program in place now which promotes one to E-4 quickly because of the specific job.

I felt lucky to have successfully completed my tour as a US Army Recruiter. Recruiting is a difficult assignment for many because of the pressures. They are often accused of lying to applicants which is not always the case. Applicants don't get the jobs they want such as brain surgeon or rocket scientist, so they blame the recruiter. Some recruiters do stretch the truth though.

Military service is a good option for many, although not all. The experience can open many doors. The education benefits are very helpful after leaving the service. Being stationed in Europe, to me, is one of the ultimate experiences in life.

I also don't think you should play with them. Its just immature and unecessary. Play with telemarketers, come back here and brag and we'll all have a good laugh, but the military doesn't really need that.

WHY IN THE HELL DID YOU TAKE THE DAMN TEST IF YOU HAVE NO INTEREST IN THE MILITARY? The damn test is to find out what you would be best suited for in the military. NOTHING ELSE! If you didn't want to look at the military, you shouldn't have even taken the test.
