Just threw away 3/4 pack of cigarettes...

I am finally giving it up. I have been an off/on smoker (mostly on) for the last 5 years, and it's time to stop before I do even more damage.

I was just reading about how harmful it is to the skin, which is another nice bonus on top of the lung damage and free radicals.

I am just starting running again too. My excuse to start smoking again last time was my broken foot. No excuses this time.

I quite coffee and tabaca 7 weeks ago...Cold turkey. They really go together for me.

Push fluids and get some real rest. YOU CAN DO IT!

If you stay off cigarettes for 6 weeks update this thread and I'll quit too. So not only your health hangs in the balance, but mine as well. I know you won't fail me D22...

Oh and GL.

Do people always have to be dramatic when they quit smoking? If you're going to quit, quit logically, that means selling the cigs instead of throwing them away.

On a related note, I just found a 3/4 pack of cigarettes and I'm finally going to start smoking.

No more excuses like, it's so unhealthy or it smells nasty. Today I embrace the cancer sticks and commence what I hope will become a lifelong habit.

I just read today how smoking relaxes you and revs up your metabolism which is just what I need. 🙂

congrats... I quit on July 1st of this year after 12 years... decided when I woke up that I would not smoke anymore, had one final cig to the butt, and threw away the last 8 cigs I had in my pack.

I have had the odd cigarette here and there, maybe 4 or 5 in the last two months; sometimes when I go out with my friends, its tough..

Good luck man! a lot of people I know quit w/ pure determination and exercise. My dad was a heavy smoker, and for me and my little bro, he quit smoking, and he exercised to hell to keep the weight off that comes w/ quitting cold turkey. his love for me and my bro when we were little, his determination to have a cleaner household, and for him to preemtively do less damage to himself so he can live longer to see his kids go on to do cool things (I'm a computer programmer, lol stupid job, nothing compared to my brother who's in med school, does triathlons, was in varisty wrestling and crew teams as undergrad, got his research grant as only a med student, and does his own charity work for inner city kids of Chicago and volunteers helping them during Sundays.......etcetetcetc..) is something that i really really respect my Dad for, and eternally will give thanks for.

Well, he had a good reason, and he did it w/ sheer determination. Best of luck to you and keep that determination 🙂

we're only here for verbal support. make sure you have loved ones around you and good friends to assist you.

Good luck to ya. I know from personal experience, not only is it hard to quit smoking, but often, it's harder to stay quit...especially if you're around people who smoke on a daily basis.
