I'm not sure how weird the cardboard box is.. we used to put ice cream in cardboard boxes and then into a deep freeze. If these were to be deep frozen I can see why cardboard boxes might not be bad.

It's funny, back when I still had my ball python, I kept feeder mice frozen in the freezer. People think that that is weird, but they're perfectly ok with hot dogs, which are made of something similar to what's pictured in the OP: Various animals pureed into a paste and extruded into cylinders a few inches long. That is normal, but whole mice is not.

Humans are a fun species, no?
