Just thought about this. Seems that some folks have a problem with plastic surgery, nose jobs, boob jobs, etc...

But what about other procedures that we take for granted?

[*] Surgery to have a child's ears pinned back when they have Dumbo ears
[*] Crossbite/overbite (I had braces to correct a crossbite when I was yonger)
[*] Gaps in teeth/total tooth replacement/caps/etc.

All of this stuff doesn't necesarily HAVE to be done. It's done for appearance sake, but I don't see people raggin' on those procedures.

Anyway, just a thought :p

most of those procedures look good when they are done. Boob jobs for instance look horrible afterwards most of the time.

It takes time for society to accept things. Over time all of this will be accepted as normal.

That's not the point. All are done for vanity reasons...

I never thought of it that way, but you're right.
I'm all for boobs, so I can't really comment negatively on that.
I have thought of the vanity of facelifts and all that, guess I'm as facelift bigoted as the next guy.

I am all for boobs and most boob jobs look good when covered. granted I have seen a couple jobs where it looked really good, but those are rare.

the only problem with boob jobs are the texture and feel is not all that great. they are much harder, but as far as doing things to them that you can do to natural breast, there is practically no difference.

actually i lost my virginitiy to a girl that had nice and firm C cups and I couldn't tell if she had surgery or not.:p

Vanity can be taken to different degrees. Operations that allows one to fit in and not be ridiculed by society are much more understandable than operations that allows one to be noticed to attract people. Boob jobs may draw my attention at times, but they indicate extreme shallowness and idolatry... and I would never take one seriously in terms of relationships...

Didn't know about surgery done to children's ears....that's news to me...same goes for overbit/crossbite.

Regarding the last point, isn't that done for health reasons...if you have large gaps between your teeth, isn't that a bad thing as more dirt/debris can get collected in your gums?

Yeah, I saw a Dateline special on the ears thing. They removed a portion of the cartileage in the girls ear and pinned the back to make them look normal.

As for the overbite/crossbite thing, that's VERY commonly fixed with braces/retainers.

Overbite and the other problems you mentioned with teeth actually have purposes beyond vanity. Ask any dentist. People with an overbite can't use their two front teeth as well for what they were made for. People that get braces are usually told so by a dentist, and each person is evaluated whether they need it or not. Many people have overbites that aren't considered detrimental, and never get recommended braces.

As far as the ear surgery... that fits. I don't have a problem with others doing it, but I still see them as wrong in the sense that they ignore whats most important.

People draw the line differently about the degree of shallowness.

Personally, I could care less with what other people do to themselves.

not having your teeth treated with braces can lead to improper wearing down also I had a friend who had teeth problems where if he didn't get braces it would have caused problems with his jaw later on in life.

I have no problem with nose jobs to correct deformities or especially large noses.

I DO have a problem with boob jobs for anything other than fixing the devastation caused by a mastectomy.

Sorry, natural boobs are better to play with. I don't play with people's noses and most noses will feel and look natural after they've been fixed. Not so with boobs.

Wouldn't a 21 year old woman with a chest as flat as a 12-year old boy be considered "deformed?" ;)
