Just switched to ATI from Nvidia. What's the best way to fix the XP refresh rate issue?

All,

Just installed a new Radeon 9800 Pro in place of my old GeForce 3 last night. With the GeForce, I had been using RivaTuner to fix the XP refresh rate issue, but it doesn't seem to support the Catalyst 3.8 drivers for the Radeon (which are working fine for me BTW). What's the best way to address the refresh rate issue with an ATI card? I did a Google search but only came up with some Russian program that seemed a bit flakey. Any advice anyone can give here would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Well you could do it in the drivers: Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced/(ATI)Displays-click the Monitor tab then pick a single refresh rate for all resolutions under "Refresh Rate Override" or uncheck "Use DDC Information" and set the refresh for each res individualy.
I don't use any 3rd party refresh program as I use 1280x960/85Hz ( my monitors limit at that res) for my desktop and the same in games-hence I either select "use same as desktop" or "85Hz" under "Refresh Rate Override".
Simple and easy.

Best overall for me is Multi-RES newest version is 1.42. Excellent program it is included in the Omegaware download of ATI Radeon "hacked" drivers. You might want to visit Rage3D website for useful info on ATI cards.

I used to use Refresh Force with my Nvidia card but that stopped working when I went ATI. Now I use Powerstrip.

Out of curiosity, why would you use a third party solution over the native refresh control in the ATI drivers?

My understanding was that the ATI native refresh control worked when all your games used the same resolution as your desktop. I use all kinds of resolutions from 800x600 (Halo) to 1600X1200 (BF1942). If this is fixed in the 3.8's let me know on this thread because yeah, I'd rather just use the ATI software.

....uncheck "Use DDC Information" and set the refresh for each res individually....

AFAIK yes you can use the above option to set individual refresh rates/resolutions.

No, you can specify to use the same refresh of your desktop no matter what resolution you game at. (what I use) You can also specify a single refresh for every resolution. It works for Opengl and DX and has been fixed since late last year IIRC.

uncheck "Use DDC Information" and set the refresh for each res individually....

I don't believe this will work. Those values below indicate the "maximum values" for your display, there is no individual settings AFAIK.

Ok, so I just uncheck that DDC setting and enter the refresh rate for each resolution then. I'm going to go give it a shot now. Thanks.
