I have been using a tackball (I know most people hate them) for the past 4 years. The left click button finally gave out so I ordered a nice optical mouse. Still trying to get used to it. I do like being able to scroll through pages and go forward and back on the mouse though.

1 week UPDATE:

I am finally getting used to this. After I adjusted the acceleration and got a few of the extra buttons programmed I can say that I am happy I made the switch. I just played a couple rounds of UT2K4 and I have never done that well...ever.

If anyone is thinking of buying a mouse, buy the Logitech 510

I used a trackball for about 3 years. Then bought an optical mouse because

1) every where you go they have mice, not trackballs.
2) my kill/death ratio in CS improved dramatically (your thumb just isn't that accurate)

Welcome to the future of computing. ;)

Personally I am in awe of anyone who can use a trackball effectivly. I always have the hardest time even clicking on that little 'x' in the upper corner of the window!

the scroll button can be used as "page down" or "end" too... great for surfing forums.

I'm bi-inputable. Errr....

I use both a mouse and a trackball. I use an MX510 at home for browsing and gaming, and a trackball marble (with scrolly wheel) at work because of CTS. I also pack a trackball for working on the road with my laptop.

Trackballs are great for office use and in non-computer friendly places like hotels and airports.

Stop touching the ball, and learn to love the nipple. Get an IBM Trackpoint II keyboard (M-13 model). Seriously. :)

I'm still using my Logitech Trackman Marble + with scrollwheel. It's 7 years old and still going strong. You can't get them anymore and no other trackball or mouse (blech!) does it justice. It's going to be a sad day when this thing finally dies...

I used a trackball for about a year, but I went to an optical mouse and I've never been happier.

I have a trackman marble (no scrollwheel unfortunately). The nice thing about it is that you can use your pointing and middle fingers instead of your thumb.

I use both, it's all good. No scroll wheel on the trackball, but I don't mind.

from what I read it was the best bang for the buck mouse. I just played a little HL2 with it and it is going to take some definite getting used to.

I've used the same trackball for 5 years now, I bought it so I can use it at work and has gone from job to job with me. I wouldn't give it up full time for a mouse.

Razer Boomslang 2000 1st Edition > Razer Diamondback > Logitech MX518 > Logitech MX510 > Logitech Trackball > MS Intellimouse 4.0 > Logitech MX1000 > Logitech MX700

At least, for gaming and precision graphics design.

I'm using a trackball mouse right next to my keyboard in the pullout..able keybaord tray and when I'm gaming i bring out my regular mouse. The trackball is good since it doesn't require a large desk top space

does anyone here still use non-optical mice?

i have like 5 laying around my room somwhere. I use them when the occasional customer comes in with the older style plugs (the old AT or serial connections).

I like the weight of the MX700...my next mouse will be the MX1000 (or whatever is out there when this one dies)

Pffft, you just started using a mouse again, and we're supposed to follow your advice?

I don't do cords, myself.
