Reminds me of Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music..

Why is it that every genre needs hundreds of subgenres? like - No, this is not just "metal", this is new trash power goth metal! Or, this isn't "techno", it's hard dub minimal acid house!

Because sometimes you want to describe music in more specific terms than just rock, techno or whatever. I'm pretty sure most artists don't care about genre names, they're just things invented by the fans and music journalists to describe the music.

QFT...it's really what the fans make it.

I am surprised my buddies old band L.U.N.G.S. / Collapsing Lungs didn't make it under Ministry and the Marilyn Manson sector (Manson also started down here in the same neighborhood as LUNGS and myself).

Some genres can do without, and many at least with far fewer subgenres. But in some cases it can be very useful if you look for a specific kind of music. Power Metal is nothing like Gothic Metal, Black Metal nothing like Folk Metal, etc. If you hear Nightwish or Within Temptation and like them it doesn't mean you'll like Marduk.

Yeah, I wouldn't really call Tool a metal band either, but they really should be on that site. Soundgarden is on there...so is Nirvana...why not Tool?

I think a lot of journalists call them "progressive metal", and, it even states that on their Wikipedia. But, in my opinion, they would more likely be "progressive hard rock". They have metal-ish tendancies, but they are for sure not a "metal band". And yes, they definitely fucking rock! 😀

I really don't see how this place could exist if it had everyone's band on it.

There are alot of bands missing, then alot of bands that are on here that make you scratch your head...

Mainly I think its just due to its 1 dude making it. My version of this page would be much different and so would yours.
