Just Starting My First Build - Problem with Case (Antec SLK3000B)

Just got my last parts, all ready to do my first build.. Studied quite a bit.. Just starting and I notice Antec didnt give me enough screws to fit the standoffs. The Abit AX8 takes 9 - I got 7. I'm really frustrated about it.. I said, Ok, Ill go get some. Went to Ace Hardware, Orchard Hardware, Office Max.. nothing suitable.. Nothing at all. nothing that small.

Antec gave me about 45 hard drive screws which is great if I were going to install 11 hard drives... Now what? Send away for screws? Wait a week?

Would you just leave out a couple of the standoffs in an area of the motherboard that looks like its well supported - just go with 7? I have some case screws for the optical drives that almost fit - smaller.. but not a proper fit.. Id like to build it tonight.

Any advice?

try your local small computer store or repair shop, they should have some, and if nice enough give you the couple you need for free...

I found a couple of screws.. The I/O plate that Antec included with their case used the same screw thread - a shorter screw, but close enough. It works. Thanks for your suggestion..

Yes, that's what I gather.. but that's why I'm a newbie at building. Those of us without experience just try to follow directions.. If the motherboard calls for 8, we want to put in 8. Later on when we understand the build better, we might not think it too critical to have all the standoffs.

you only need like 5 screws. I have never ever used more than 5 screws when installing a motherboard. One screw in each 4 corners, and another screw where you apply pressure on the mobo - most likely the graphics card area, ram, or IDE area.

I use the full complement of screws - but if I didn't have enough, I'd concentrate on the areas that may be stressed (around the card slots, RAM and drive connectors) and worry about filling in the rest later. Plus I usually use some modified old plastic standoffs to provide extra support where there may not be a standard mounting hole. I like my mobos to be well supported...
