Well for some reason i was never interested in WoW...i have some exp w/ in other MMORPGs like DAoC which i played a few years ago.

Since my GF is a big RPGer we got the Battlechest and gamecards from the states (since we want to play on US servers w/ some friends from the states).

Started playing 2 days ago..here my thoughts:

I am lvl 9 Warlock and she is a lvl 15 Paladin.

I am very pleased how it runs on my machine as well as on her notebook, the game seems VERY solid in every way. Solid and straight-forward user-interface enables you to play instantly if you know the basics or already played similar games.

The graphics are "ok ok"...certainly not on par with Crysis or similar...and here an there i could complain about textures - but the overall impression is a very good one, the game is very colorful and SOME characters look very nice. (Dudes all look like brainless Schwarzeneggers tho :)

I am pleased, its a solid MMORPG and i am sure there is way much to come...we bareley started playing so we're still pretty new.

Parts of it very much reminded me of DAoC...wondered whetehr blizzard hired some coders working at DAoC earlier.

Btw. we're on server Exodar, i am flexyana and GF plays jeeld.

Be careful, it's pretty addictive. I started back in Nov. '04 when it was first released and lost a year of my life.

I wouldn't compare graphics to anything current considering how old the game is.

Oh, and the end game is a joke, so if I were you, just enjoy leveling up.

If he played DAOC I'm sure he understands the addictive nature.

OP, just keep in mind that the graphics are dated at this point. The good thing is that since they chose the more cartoony look it will help as it gets even older. Also, if you need any warlock advice let me know. :)

yes i am actually not complaining....i still say graphics are ok for an MMORPG.

Yeah..know about the addictive nature...but right now we have some spare time...so we jumped on it :)

Wait until you hit the mid 50s and realize you are about 20% way through your grind. The true grind happens at lvl 70 when you need to grind rep, gear, and more gear.

And if you like rvr or pvp. WoW's pvp is atrociously bad.

Eh, once you hit 58 the grind becomes fun. I dont know about you guys, but gearing and leveling in the Outlands is ridiculously easy. I had my epic (flying) mount 2 days after hitting 70 and was in purples with little effort after that. It took some intense grinding, but it wasnt hard and I had fun exploring and flying super fast. Of course, this is when BC was first released so the economy was messed up and I rocked at making money. Ahhh, kinda makes me want the next expansion to come out...

I miss the good old days when getting epics meant months of raiding or pvping, not 2 days of instancing. :)

I can count the number of MMOs (across the entire history of the genre) with better PVP than WoW on 1 hand, and that hand doesn't even need 5 fingers.

A joke compared to what? The raiding is well thought out if it's your bag. If you don't like raiding then I don't know what you were hoping for end game but at least WoW has put a few decent 6 man dungeons into the game towards that end. Way more than other developers put forth. Granted, the end game might lack something else to do, like build a house or whatnot for the casuals.

I don't mind people saying the end game is a joke. That's fine, everyone has an opinion. I'd just like to know what would make the end game NOT a joke. I mean, what do other games have at end game that WoW does not?

The addon Questhelper basically walks you through every quest in-game. On-screen, it gives you best routes and where to go and what to kill and for what. It's one of the most downloaded but of course this doesn't give you the full experience. But if you're looking to level quick, that's the mod to get. If you want something more low-key, get Lightheaded, which puts wowhead.com's comments right into the game as well so you don't have to alt-tab out.

I am a bit curious about this as well. I very much enjoy the end game content myself although I realize that it may not be for everyone.

What is this alt-tab that you speak of?

*Looks at his second monitor while WoW is on windowed mode*

How many hours a week do you spend playing WoW Xavier? be honest :)

Back in my heyday, I'd have about 56 hours per week. I don't play nearly that much anymore. Although, I kinda wish I could and I'd finish leveling my characters (only 3 normals left.. 64 lock, 63 paladin, 27 druid)

Lately, it has been a lot more since we just had the 2.4 content patch come out. I would say I am putting in about 20-25 hours per week including the weekend. Before the patch came out I was putting in about 10-15 hours per week. Both of these estimates includes 2 nights of raiding. Gaming is my hobby and WoW has been a big part of that for over 2 years now, but I try not to let it overwhelm my life or else I would get bored really quickly and it's not healthy for my family.

I think WoW is well-designed, all things considered. Yes, the PVP is bland, but the combat system is pretty balanced. Also, in TBC, Blizzard added lots to do for casual players.

My opinion is based on the mere fact that I only enjoy leveling up. Once I hit max level and realize there's nothing to do other than the same 5 hour instances over and over and over just hoping to get some stupid purple item that does another 10dps is where I lose all interest in the game. I guess I'm not a true MMO fan, I enjoy the adventure, seeing new areas, new enemies, getting new weapons/armor along the way, but once it's nothing but item hunting, I'm done with the game.

I tried 3 or 4 of the endgame instances, declared it a joke, and started a new toon.

Eh - the game is only addictive if you let it become addictive.

The end game now consists of raiding, pvpng, or running dailies [you can make A LOT of gold running 25 dailies each day].

The most enjoyable aspect of WoW are the people you play with

You really can't beat the price per entertainment.

The only other MMORPG I have played was a VERY brief stint of EQ1. Is there a game with better PvP? I really enjoy it in WoW!

If it wasn't for my guild I would have quit long ago. I'll quit when my guild quits.

well it's still a looooooooong way to lvl70 :) We're still very much noobs.

I try to figure out the talent/training system now..i have reason to believe that my spells/talents dont level up the same way as my level does.
I am lvl11 warlock now but for now only could apply 3 talent points to increase spells?
