gave this game another try last night after reading this thread. and i cant get into it at all. playing on medium setting i keep running out of ammo and plasmids. i end up with just my wrench, smacking some mad doc over the head who keeps recharging his health all the time

whats all the fuss about bioshock? imo its awful

I'm sorry, but on MEDIUM you have to be mentally handicapped (in my personal opinion) to run out of plasmids/ammo. You either aren't looking for items or you have a really REALLY crappy aim.

maybe. but im ranked in the top 1000 on COD4's Live leaderboard with 120k kills, with a k/d of 3.14. accuracy of 22% and a win streak of 450!

i might be struggling switching between COD and bioshock, i dunno.

appreciate the insult though. thanks

Wait a second - win streak of 450? Unless they changed something, they only count wins as part of a streak if both teams are identical. To get a streak of 450, you'd have to be artificially boosting your score in Team Tactical or something like that. Even if they did change the win streak conditions, I still think you'd have to be boosting to get 450 in a row.

I played on medium my first time through, and it was basically the first time I had played a FPS since Goldeneye. I also had trouble with running low on ammo and eve, but only early in the game. I think after Neptune's Bounty stuff became a lot more plentiful, and I often found myself having to spend money just to avoid wasting money by having my wallet fill up.

I just started playing Bioshock again, and I have a lot less difficulty with ammo and Eve this time. I don't get hurt as much since I don't suck anymore, so I can spend my money on Eve instead of health packs. I also use the wrench a lot more, because I realized how effective it is to zap a guy with electric and then hit him with the wrench.

If you're referring to the doctor in the surgery ward, he's pretty easy to kill if you use telekinesis hit him with an oxygen tank. I think you can also lure him downstairs to the flooded room and zap the water.

no mugs im not boosting. ive never cheated in all my 30 years of gaming.

ive got my 450 win streak through FFA. i normally play SnD, HC TDM, HC SnD. but im sticking to FFA just to see how high my win streak can go.

i can post a pic if you want..

edit, for the time being this pic was taken a couple of weeks ago. my streak then was 276. my GT is NKSR. if you note, the guy at the top of my friends list win streak is 1070! which must be the highest on Live

edit, i lost that streak when the host quit. so ive had to start again

I played it for an hour and got bored. Once I figured out that I can die and magically reappear about 3 metres away from where I was originally it became very monotonous.

Electric gel destroys them.
After upgrades it's ~50 rounds of electric gel to kill a Big Daddy with no work required at all (since it immobilises them as well so they can't attack you), end before upgrades it's less than 100 units, which are cheap to make at the manufacturing things.
Plus elec gel isn't useful for much else I found.

Yes, that's a great deal. I'd buy Bioshock for $40, and I don't like paying a lot for games. I bought Company of Heroes for $30 and still wished it was lower.

But I really, really like Bioshock

I never used the revive tanks; if I died, I'd reload a save.

The latest patch allows you to disable to revive tanks, I believe

Come to think of it COH was kind of short.

Payed $15 for it myself (PC version at Circuit City, no install limit anymore for the PC, btw). The game is good, easily worth more than $20 as far as fun factor goes. My only major technical complaint is that the shadows are a bit unrealistically awkward in some locations. I recently found a way to disable bloom / hdr lighting, so I cannot complain about that (I dislike HDR / bloom).

yeah PC games go down in price fast. I was just surprised that it's $20 (originally $40) as I thought it was still a $60 game.

as of right now I'm playing manhunt2... and it's no hitman2 in terms of fun factor.

I just started replaying the game, for some bizarre reason the graphics look heavily outdated to me (is it me or UE3's produces some weird effects and "unclean" graphics?) even though I loved them at release but the game is still just every bit of fun it used to be, I really wished the extra PS3 content would be ported to the PC version (at least Survivor Mode) but even then it's a good game. The story and atmosphere make the game for me.

I've seen it for $40 on Xbox360, surprised me considering CoD4 and Halos are still full price.

Lack of multiplayer kills the price I think. And it didn't sell nearly as well as CoD 4 or H3 to begin with. Bioshock was on the top 10 played list on XBL (which counts single-player games as long as you're connected) for a month and a half. I don't think Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 have left the top two on that list since they came out. No multiplayer means less replay value, which means more people want to sell it when they're done with it, which makes it difficult to sell it new for $60.

I never sell single-player games, I always regret it and end up spending a bunch of time and money to get it back when I want to play it again.

This is why, even though I'm not playing it at all, I'm keeping my PS2 and all my PS2 games in mint condition.

Don't sell Bioshock when you are done with it, it's one of those games you'll want to revisit a few years down the line, especially when Bioshock 2 is close to release.

You don't sell single-player games, I don't sell single-player games, but many people do.

Yep. Good advice. I wish I could get No One Lives Forever 2 to work again. It's so old, it keeps crashing. That was one of the funniest games I have played.

But had multiplayer.
OF has 2 campaigns but I don't know how long they are.

I think one reason Bioshock has gone down is because once the initial rush buys it, others aren't interested because of lack of replayability, and also it doesn't have continued exposure because once you've completed it you kind of move on to other games.
With a CoD4 or Halo 3 you're playing maybe a couple of times a week so it's fresher in the mind and people are more likely to be exposed to it through talking with friends, looking at Xbox Live tables etc, so it's going to continue to have more demand (arguably) than even a very good single player game like Bioshock.

of course single player games don't keep the value of multiplayer games but if you have a game like bioshock or something new and very popular, you should sell it after you beat it or get bored of it and more than likely it will be very cheap in a year or two when you want to go back and play it again.

for instance, metroid prime was $50 when it came out and is $5 now and has been for the past 3 years and so is viewtiful joe ($2.99) these are both great games I wouldn't want to sell but they're worthless even though they're quality games.

I keep all my games from my personal collections as well because every game has replay value to me in some form or another especially if they're games I love. I sell tons of games as well and enjoy selling these games for fun and for profit but if you buy a game full price you should sell it while it is still worth it's value and buy it again later on when they're really cheap.

Of course certain games will cost more than retail 5 years down the line even as a used game (pikmin 2/mvc2/mgs:ts).. but that's rare.

Shock and bash - most of the time I couldn't pick up ammo because I was full on everything, and I never even bothered with heat seeking missiles or the electric gel 🙁

Still a very fun game, but you could definitely tell that the devs wanted to make gameplay deeper but had to "pull up" to make it accessible. I think the game suffered a bit for it, as it couldn't decide if it was an RPG or a shooter, although by launch the devs labeled it a shooter.
