Just started playing Bioshock

This game is amazing. I am posting primarily to say that.

I do have a question though. What is the trick to bating Big Daddy's? For the most part, I try to hypnotize a Big Daddy for myself and let him do the dirty work. The last time I tried to use hacked security cameras, the cameras did not alarm on the Big Daddy even though it has worked in the past..

Many ways to bring down the BD's. I would use electric bucks & electric gel a lot. I would also hack all the turrets in a room to be friendly. Later in the game when you get the trap bolts, I would suggest just setting a bunch of those & luring a BD through the traps.

& Hell yeah, this game rocks. Too easy even on hard though... 🙁 They are working on #2 right now though! 🙂

Im going to do my 2nd run through with DX10 on hard soon. Very good game.

I usually set some enrage on some roaming baddies then went to town with armor piercing machine gun or shotgun.

Was not aware that it was a DX10 title, I picked it up a few months ago when it was on sale for $15 at CC. I guess it will be the first DX10 game for my new GTX260. Waiting to finish up Medal of Honor: Allied Assault first (also a good game). Kinda got side tracked by Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, picked it up for <$3 at a local salvage store with a 30-day free subscription included.

I remember my first computer game was system shock, back in 1994 I think. I dont' remember much except it sucked but had good music when you go into the elevator.

I LOVED this game, I still rank it as one of my top 5 ever. Can't wait for a sequel.
I think I used electric shotguns and armor piercing rounds to kill them. Hiding behind a counter or in an area where they couldn't get would make it incredibly easy. I'm such a wuss, but it was the best and safest way I found.

Anyone who hasn't played it should definately try it. Great game.

I usually set up a few proximity mines between me and him, then hit him with some electric buck, maybe some heat-seaking rockets, armor-piercing machine gun or pistol rounds, or electric gel.

Whatever you do, don't reload. When you empty a weapon, switch to the next. Make sure you have them all loaded up with the right ammo before you attack the Big Daddy. They're easy to take down this way.

Once you get the tripwire bolts and prox mines you can kill them instantly. Just set up a bunch of tripwires and a bunch of mines in front of you and shoot the BD. He charges you through all that stuff and just dies instantly. I don't know the exact number you need, I only did a couple times for fun.

Great ideas. it is much appreciated.

As for the sequel, I read that it is planned for a Fall 2009 release. I would assume that their true goal is to get it out prior to December 1. This game will sell like crazy for x-mas.

I still have not been able to get the game running 🙁 The game just has to many bugs for me to play it, sound problems are the main thing.

Haha, I got it on PC and had to turn everything down. I'm considering renting the PS3 version just to see everything maxed and 'played the way it was meant to be played'.

I'll stick to my crashes any day of the week over having to play with a gamepad 😛

I think Bioshock might be my favorite game of all time. I thought it was the most creative, groundbreaking game I have played since the original Half-Life. I kinda felt bad for the development team that COD4 came out so soon after it, because as much as COD4 was a brilliant pure shooter, I didn't think it had anything on Bioshock creatively, yet it suddenly swept everyone's best-FPS awards for the year.

You might be interested in System Shock 2. Many of the same people that worked on Bioshock worked on System Shock 2 and they are similar.

According to the developers, BioShock is a spiritual successor to the System Shock games, and was produced by former developers of that series. Levine claims his team had been thinking about making another game in the same vein since they produced System Shock 2.[46] In his narration of a video initially screened for the press at E3 2006, Levine pointed out many similarities between the games.

I bought it off of Steam the other day and just beat it today. Pretty damn good game. For the Big Daddies I would let off with 4 rounds of electric buck and switch to the grenades to finish him off. Not very fancy but fast and effective. The wrench plasmids were a lot more useful than I thought they would be.

gave this game another try last night after reading this thread. and i cant get into it at all. playing on medium setting i keep running out of ammo and plasmids. i end up with just my wrench, smacking some mad doc over the head who keeps recharging his health all the time

whats all the fuss about bioshock? imo its awful

I'm sorry, but on MEDIUM you have to be mentally handicapped (in my personal opinion) to run out of plasmids/ammo. You either aren't looking for items or you have a really REALLY crappy aim.

maybe. but im ranked in the top 1000 on COD4's Live leaderboard with 120k kills, with a k/d of 3.14. accuracy of 22% and a win streak of 450!

i might be struggling switching between COD and bioshock, i dunno.

appreciate the insult though. thanks

Acknowledging all of that, I am at a loss to understand how you are having problems with running out of ammo in Bioshock. I have played through it twice and never experienced this issue.

Don Vito i keep missing with my plasmids i guess

the controls dont feel as tight as COD4

i know im in a minority here, and ive tried to like this game, but its not doing it for me

Multiplayer means short life expectancy, quick respawn + refill, beaucoup corpses to get ammo and happy index fingers. In Bioshock and other RPGs/action-RPGs, you have to conserve ammo. This means using the gun you hate cause you have a lot of ammo so you can stock up on other ammo types. I cycle between my weapons all the time for the sake of resource management. Oh, and I take more damage to avoid missing shots. Thank god for auto-healing and plentiful health packs.
