just started overclocking

your ram speed is the number shown with the letters DDR upon bootup. your default cpu speed would be the actual GHz speed of your cpu. I did a quick google search for 3500+ chips and it says 2.2GHz. your current cpu speed is 2.565GHz (=270*9.5). I'd say that you have a VERY nice overclock. I am concerned that you may not have set up your memory for a good speed. let us know what your memory speed is.
 
oh, hehe, thanks. i'll be sure to post that in the morning. i plan to go through the rest of the night in prime. hopefully it'll still be running by that time=P
 
Don't use 9.5 as your multiplier. Either stick with 10 or drop it to 9. Also, bump the memory voltage to 2.8 and set your timings tighter. Something like 2.5-3-3-10 at 1T. AMD machines like to use a higher TRAS number so set it to 10, maybe 11. You can probably hit 275 FSB if you set your CPU voltage to 1.6v. How are your temps?
 
my temps are at 51 load and about 38ish idle. and yea, i wasnt sure bout my timings, because everyones kinda telling me that its a little too loose.
 
Well, 2.5-4-4-10 1T should be about right for 275 FSB, but if you're staying at around 270, you'd probably be able to pull off 2.5-3-3-10 1T. Give it a shot. Let us know how you do.
 
whew. last night i tweaked some more. i didnt loosen my timings because i decided to drop from 9.5 to 9 and fsb up to 280. so i was able to run prime with no error with 9x280 with 2.5-4-4-10-1t timings. is that still too loose? should i tighten up again?
 
im back fairly quickly because my comp had an error running 9x285 and 9x290, but i was able to run prime for about 8 hours with 9x280. my ram timings are still 2.5-4-4-10-1t. is that ok for my current setup? i noticed i ran stable on 9.5x270. which is better? 9.5x270 or 9x280. thanks
 
LOL, you just hit was is known as the 1.3 HTT bug. I personally use 1.36beta bios. It fixes it and allows a large range of voltages at the same time.

Sounds like you need to find a middle ground there. Maybe try 9x275 to see if you're stable. If you are, then you got yourself a nice overclock there! 😉
 
hehe thanks. i think im gonna keep the 9x280 with 2.5-4-4-10-1t timings. with as5 and zalman 7000balcu my temps never went above 53 at the highest. i keep thinking im able to do just a little more, because i didnt crank up the voltage on my ram or on my vcore. but i guess this will do for now until i learn a few more things. this was my first overclock and it was pretty fulfilling. thanks for your help, guys.
