Why didn't the op just get 4 128MB sticks so he'd have 512MB of ram per machine instead or possibly 2 256MB stikcks? I'm pretty sure it has 4 slots...

Room for expansion without having to scrap existing ram?

2 256MB sticks would have been fine, do you really believe he will use more than 1GB of ram on a workstation this old? Espcially one that had at one point less than 512MB ram?

2x 256 sticks would have been the same price. The machines are 2+ GHZ so there is room for expansion if its needed. The machines only have 2 slots for the ram and the price is the same per mb of ram.

My point was how rediculous the cost is for the memory. If they were personal machines...they would have gone on ebay.

as for my "customers" comment, they are actually the employees/end users...for some reason i refer to them as customers when speaking/typing to others.

Rambus was awesome at the time, and the i850 chipset using the Intel Application Accelerator actually makes it very fast for disk access and load times. I had a Rambus-based xeon system that I unfortunately had to replace, due to Intel never introducing a 533mhz xeon chipset. (CPU Horsepower was severly lacking)

I hear ya on that. We could save so much sometimes 🙁 Granted, we make it up when a HD dies or mobo fries on the dell machines.. I have a replacement part the next day.
