just sound and no pic in downloaded avi's

I've recently downloaded 2 avi-files from the net and I've tried several players to play these files, but the only thing I get is the sound, where's the picture?

Is it something that I do wrong or is it something with the files that "removes" the picture?
Encoding/Decoding?
I'm in Europe and the files are downloaded från U.S.?

It could be a DivX Avi.

I'm a newbie in the "moviegame"... What is a DivX avi? How can I watch it? Any special player?

Try getting Angelpotion from www.divx-digest.com. When you run it, choose a custom install, and it will allow you to install 5(?) variations of the divx codec. That should take care of it!

The avi's you're trying to read might just have been encoded using a codec not installed on your machine. check out http://gonow.to/codeczone for more.
