Wish me luck. :) Currently I got comcast phone basic for 28/month, be going to Vonage's basic 14.99 plan. If I get another basic line, then it'll run $13 apiece. Anyone got VoIP yet?

Did you port your existing landline phone number or just get assigned a new phone number?

Hopefully comcast won't take that long. How's you service been with them so far?

Been using Vonage for 4 months or so now. I've had one dropped call, sometimes I get a delay, think it's a bandwith issue but that happens during peak hours I've noticed, I'm on cable so I figure that could have something to do with it. ;)
I'm on the basic +500 minutes of LD a month, I don't regret missing my local phone provider. I did not transfer my local number.

I have vonage, I am very happy with it, I did not have my number ported though.

I have vonage and love it...my wifes folks live in Canada so the long distance to them alone is worth the monthly charge. Audio quality has been great and I haven't had any problems with drops or periods without service.

Every now and then My phone is dead but that is because my router does funny things every now and then...reset the router and BAM -- phone is back up.

I've got a Vonage small business line with the free fax line. Works great as long as your connection is up (Comcast). Only had a few calls so far where I experienced 'talk back' but hell I get this on our phone system at work too. Overall a good experience sp far and checking voicemail from the web is also an added plus!

On broadbandreports they said if that happens you can call vonage and have them set a parameter to 5 seconds or something like that. Take a look over there if it bothers you.

Have it for a little over a month now. Quality is equal if not better to my Comcast phone I had. Phone nuber transfer took a little over a month, but Vonage gives you credit for the first month if you don't have the number in time.
Called their help line twice and had someone to talk to without oggles of menues and received prompt and good help.
My number is now succesfully tranfered and we don't have a issue with the service at all.

Well, I got the phone thingy today and plugged it up. Now I got dial tone though it. Still waiting for the number porting, hopefully it won't take that long.

Does your number show up on caller ID (POTS landline)? The only trouble I think I would have with VoIP is our frequent power outages during hurricane season.

When I tried calling from my cell phone to this VoIP phone it popped my cell number on the VoIP based phone. But when I called from the VoIP to my cell phone, my cell only displayed that I was getting a call. Of course my cell phone could have been the cause as I don't believe it ever gives me who's calling.

I'm really excited about this...when broadband over powerlines comes into play it'll be really interesting to see what happens.

Does this price include taxes or other service fees? What's the bottom line?

<edit> Crap. Just did a quick look and they don't have a local area code for me. There goes that idea. :(

It also adds FET Tax of $1.35 and a Regulatory Recovery Fee of $1.50. I'm not sure what the FET is about but the Recovery Fee is 1.50 per line you own.

I saw this at best buy one day... looked very interesting. But since it relies solely on your connection, it really leaves me a little uneasy. Phone lines just seem a hell of a lot more reliable to use right now. we've had days of comcast outages before. I cannot recall the last time our phones didn't function.
