So my Bright House bill has been slowly creeping up and up, $130 for basic digital TV (no HBO ect.) and 14.4/300K internet. I call and ask if they can "throw me a bone" since I've been a customer for over 20 years and others are offering good deals on packages in the area, " No, we don't price match"...I then threaten to disconnect, " I can do that for you right now"...well F-you BH, I went with U-Verse, for $90 month (including taxes) I get 3 DVR's digital HDTV 18/? internet speed and zero connection charges. I then asked the girl "what's the rate going to be when the promo is over", her reply was "just sign on to another promo"..Hmmm, why would you allow existing customers to do that?, "we know that if we don't people will just leave", seems to make sense, install is the 29th, wish me luck.

You are going to need it, the more people using the DVRs / watching tv, the slower your net connection gets.

Damn these duopolies.

No. IPTV does not cut into your internet bandwidth.

U-verse is actually better than Comcast. But both are terrible.

His chief concern should be signing up for a service that depends on your calling them every six months and spending hours complaining in hopes of them giving you a stay of execution on your ~100% bill increase.

Eventually, it WILL come. I would bet money that there is even official policy that tells them they can give you the promo rate 'x' number of times. At which point, their research says you'll probably just say 'fuck it' and keep paying them.

Yeah my Uverse deal ran out and my bill went up $40.00 a month. I called she set me up with a six month deal and told me to call back in six months for another.

U-verse customer here. Please ignore this guy I'm quoting...he doesn't even seem to realize that U-verse is ONE whole house DVR (not multiple DVRs as he posted) and individual wireless or wired STBs that communicate with that DVR.

We have 4 TVs and watch a lot of high def TV while also using the internet and have never run into any issues with the connection slowing down enough to even really notice it.

With AT&T's use of PLC, he might as well say the more lights you have on, the worse your service gets...

Fact of the matter is, internet and TV use the same gateway, but are otherwise separate. One does not throttle the other.

Good to hear, my current $130 I pay to BH includes one digital box that gets all the channels, the other 2 do not and none of them are DVR capable, I did notice that U-verse (like all providers) likes to "package" channels into different price points so I will be checking to make sure everything I want is included, probably should have done that before I set an install date but I was so pissed at the attitude at BH I wanted out ASAP.

you have no clue....

Nope, sorry, I only report what I saw first hand...
At my sister's place, they signed up for Uverse, and when we tried to record on the DVR, and watch different channels on the other sets, the net connection I was using slowed down.
When we turned off 2 of them, it sped back up.

I thought this was odd, but, multiple tests confirmed that it was doing just that.
This was 3 years back, so things could have changed, but knowing AT&T, I doubt it.

Here are some links that prove I wasn't telling a lie:

I also have a FTTP connection which gives higher bandwidth so you can watch 4 TV's without eating into the bandwidth. If you are on copper you don't have the same extra bandwidth and watching TV does eat into your internet speeds. There are a few people on here that can tell you exactly what kind of hit to expect with watching TV. I think they usually give you enough overhead to watch 1 TV without impacting speed, but the 2nd TV will likely drop your internet speed. However, internet browsing will not affect your TV at all. TV is given top priority so if you turn on another TV your download speed would drop but TV wouldn't be affected.
So, it seems if you are on copper, then that is the culprit.
