i've chipped the corner off an athlon slot A 600mhz core and it has worked fine every since
just hope you don't chip off too much or too deep i guess
only way you know is to try it
it won't hurt to try it
just fill the scratch with artic silver and put the heatsink on like usual with yur fingers crossed

i had a 1gHz t-bird that was chipped badly on all 4 corners, and the damn thing was still rock solid at 1.4.

Fired up the machine after I got the hard drive in there and I went to safe mode to remove all devices since a new motherboard was in there, adn after it redetected everything it started locking up during boot. Can't get past the windows cloud screen now. I either screwed up the drivers, etc when I removed all the old motherboard stuff or the chip doesn't liked being chipped? Whats your money on? I'm going with the drivers, etc being all screwed up.

Any quick remedies out there to get this fixed other then a clean install? I would have done a clean install last night but there is way to much stuff that isn't backed up on the drive.

That chippage shouldn't be a problem. I don't think that is causing your difficulties.

Maybe you could do a dual boot and get the unbacked-up stuff off the drive that way. Then do a clean install. I think that'd work.
