OMG Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!

Bacteria killed the Martians. Martians fed on the blood of other living beings; injected directly into their veins. Birds pecked at and ate the dead and dying Martians.

The red weed was an escaped stowaway.

Oh, I wondered what the hell that was. I knew it came from the recycled blood from the "canisters". But I didn't know it was used for storage.

In the book, its explained that the disease carrying microbes were eliminated on Mars and hence no need to worry about them.

Kinda like we're smart enough to know about bacteria and how to treat them as an infectious agent but they evolve almost as fast as we can create new antibiotics

Napoleon invaded Russia, and more than half their army died of hunger, disease and frost bight. In WW2, Germany tried the same thing and lost. It's another one of HG wells imperialistic metaphors. Blast from the past.

I think more people should actually read the book. Keep in mind it was written in 1898.

The Martian Heat Ray is basically a laser beam weapon.

The Black Gas is chemical warefare.

The Martians build and use a flying ship.

Biological warfare using Earth bacteria to kill the Martians.

Heavy emphasis on evolution, sociology and psychology.

the story, at its time, was groundbreaking. For today's standards, it sucks. the ending was total garbage for all three editions. it should've ended in a hopeless way. A feeling of total helplessness and no hope would've been better (grapes of wrath, the day after (the nuke movie), midnight cowboy, etc)

in the remake, when the certain character reappeared at the end, i groaned. worse ending ever.

Great movie until the final 15 minutes. Riuned the entire movie.

I was just gonna post about this cause I saw it too..

HBO ftw. I'm glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater. The cinamatography was horrid, the acting: terribad. The plot was highly underdevoloped and Tim Robbins was horrid. I need to watch Shawshank again so I can respect him at least a little.

Worst movie of the year.

Tim Robbins lol. For some reason he's always playing the crazy ol' person but he doesn't have the image or range for it. I actually think Robin Williams would of done a better job. They also could of sound dubbed the little girl throughout most of the movie. As for the cinematography, it did get a little sloppy in tight spaces. I guess it was done for a sense of panic and shock. I don't think it was horrible though.

The movie however had a build of suspense and hopelessness but like you said the ending left you in a "duh" state of mind. Almost a feeling like when you get when you eat too much ice cream and your head freezes.

Though after all that said I wouldn't say it's the worst movie of the year. It wasn't too long and it didn't drag out through endless and pointless dialogue like so many movies that I've seen. Like they say, an actors expression can tell thousands of words. A concept that Star Wars, Silent Hill, and many others seem to fail to grasp.

Ok then, that sounds kinda cool. What i dont understand is the part where Tom Cruise points up to the birds and is shouting out to the soldier. Are the birds the bacteria it cant handle or something, and why did that one all of a sudden have its shields go down.

That's just Tom Cruise being his normal crazy-assed self. I heard that the directors had a hard time controlling him during the shooting of that movie.
