Well I did a few hours ago, and I keep thinking about what that Morgan-Freeman sounding dude says at the very end with that green plant and he goes on about life or something, did that have any significance to the story, or was that all just philisophical mumbojumbo?

The aliens were killed by bacteria.

"Man earned the right to live on Earth amongst all it's inhabitants."- i.e. the little bugs that are every where, the aliens did not and were killed off.

In the original movie, the aliens were killed by oxygen.

No, in the original movie they died from the common cold, or something.

Ok then, that sounds kinda cool. What i dont understand is the part where Tom Cruise points up to the birds and is shouting out to the soldier. Are the birds the bacteria it cant handle or something, and why did that one all of a sudden have its shields go down.

The original is a much better movie. Enjoy the special effects of the new one, but watch the original if you want to see a good movie.

the crows were pecking at the tripods so that meant the shields were down or at least they weren't working at full capacity. the shields were down because the tripods were probably damaged (they seem to be partly organic) due to infection.

Im guessing the bacteria (real bacteria) caused the aliens to not have enough power to charge their shields, which was why the birds were able to fly onto the aliens instead of being repelled by them.

I could have sworn that it was oxygen that killed the aliens in the original(although I was like 5 when I saw it). I remember a line like, "They survived our nukes but couldnt survive our atmosphere."

No. They were somehow using human blood and biological material to terraform the planet.

1953!!!!

Which is almost as old as bring this thread up from the grave. Sorry. They have it showing on HBO over and over again. They did all right remaking it. You'd think with today's CGI and CAD it was bound to happen.

I liked the whole metaphor from HG Wells on the inhumanity of imperialism and how it clashed with the native people who lived relatively peacefully until the imperialist invaded (British Rule over Europe). In the end they died of disease.

What metaphor did the ending stand for?

So basically war of the worlds is a movie where there are aliens running around killing everyone and everybody runs away and runs away and runs and runs and tries not to die until the aliens finally die of bacterial infections.

read the book FTW!!!!

OMG Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!

Bacteria killed the Martians. Martians fed on the blood of other living beings; injected directly into their veins. Birds pecked at and ate the dead and dying Martians.

The red weed was an escaped stowaway.

Well the book had some meaning using symbolism and metaphoric over-tone. Movies have a way of pushing them off the stage.

Let me get this straight. You have aliens that that are smart enough to build ships to travel across the universe, but they aren't smart enough to know about bacteria?
