speaking of which, are the special editions the same everywhere? or are there "exclusive" editions to certain stores and if so which is best?

EDIT: also I went back to look at the old cartoon. Is there ever an explaination for why the autobots all of a sudden aren't able to fly anymore even though the decepticons still can?

[movie]Well, the Decepticons could fly when they were in the form of a flying vehicle... the Decepticons that were ground vehicles couldn't fly.[/movie] I think the explanation is that [cartoon]it's pretty stupid that they could fly in the first place with no visible means of propulsion.[/cartoon]

Edit: Made it clear which I was talking about

the comics explained why some could fly and some could not.

A few were giving the "gift" of flight. the first few were Megetron and starscream. then more and more were added.

yea ...the wikipedia entry on transformers is rather massive...

what?
prime decapitated another transformer! none of the others could so easily do that, and he did it to one that was a beastly vehicle nonetheless. It was cake for him.
Just because he struggled with Megatron meant nothing, as it was for two reasons: 1) Megatron is his equal, so it'd going to be a hard fight. 2) In movies, villains work better as characters if they appear to be a little more powerful than the good guy, that way it's a major accomplishment to defeat him.
that, and I predict it's not the last we'll see of the megatron character. Will be interesting to see how they handle that though. Bring him back still as Megatron as first? Or not have him come back until the third movie, and the second movie is all Starscream, and have Megatron come back as Galvatron? Unicron better get involved somewhere!

what's funny, is before this movie, I had only once in my life played with a transformer toy, and never watched the cartoons or anything. Now, I am very much interested in all of the mythology and have read a lot of the major story arcs that have appeared throughout the lifespan of the Transformers concept.

I did not see prime as weaker than megatron whatsoever. Starscream seemed more powerful than I remember, though.

Theoretically, Starscream was supposed to be the 2nd strongest Decepticon and the smartest. However, he was always portrayed as a cowardly, back-stabbing wuss in the original cartoon.

BTW, am I the only one that thought the cop hassling Sam at the police department was channeling Ben Stiller?

I actually thought it sucked, with the exception of the last 1/2 hour or so which was so bad ass it made up for the rest of the movie.

I rented it on Tuesday when it came out, and watched it on back to back nights in my media room. The movie is awesome just for the action scenes. Great movie.

Pros:
Fight scenes and graphics were awesome
That Shia actor is pretty good
John Tuturo is always awesome
Anything Transformers is awesome
Starscream rocks the party

Cons:
The autobots did seen pretty generic except for Prime and Bumblebee
Not enough of the Transformers actually involved in the story, heck the first 30 minutes was like the kids running around in bumblebee without knowing it was a robot
My biggest issue - Unless you knew some backstory or grew up with Transformers, you would have no connection with any of the robots other than Bumblebee and wouldn't care if they got destroyed.

I just wish at the end they introduced the constructobots. They then could of got together to form the SUPER bot and laid a beat down on Megatron. That would have been a better ending.

At the end of the movie they basically sunk all of the decepticons in the sea. I don't think that starscream died either. So how hard is it going to be to make a sequel about them raising the remains of megatron and fixing him with some other life giving cude?

Also I hope in the next movie that they introduce the decepticons that were the heavy equipment that transformed into that great big giant one. That would be cool.

I don't remember his name but I think he was a unit of like 6 transformers coming together.

I had all of them as a kid though.

anybody remember that one?

Starscream was by far the best (in comics and the movie). he was evil but could be a good guy also and not just when it suited him heh

* Spoiler *

Starscream will probably be returning with the other decepticons that are spread out across the universe. Scroponok is still running around Qatar somewhere as well...

It was the Constructicons. Together they formed Devastator. In the movie, they mistakenly named the tank Decepticon Devastator when he was supposed to be named Brawl.

And we never saw what happened to Barricade. He disappeared off the highway.

I actually wonder about Scorponok though. Wouldn't Blackout have picked him up? <shrug> There were enough plotholes in the movie to drive Unicron through.

Brawl would still have been a bad name as brawl was one of the smaller autobots.

In fact he was the first autobot to die on the Shuttle in the animated movie. Good Shot Starscream.

Dude, that IS pretty weird. The only thing is, I forgot the Constructobots were Decepticons. So I guess they probably wouldn't be beating down Megatron. Good for the next movie though.
