I'm confused. Is this a good movie or bad? Why did some people not like it???

Go to rottentomatoes and read some of the reviews. That will tell you why some people don't like it. There are a few good reviews for the movie there also.

Huh, you almost had me put it in my netflix queue....good thing I checked first.

20% at Rotten Tomatoes

"There are few things more depressing than a bad film about an important subject. The Life of David Gale takes it one step further: it's a silly, ludicrous, utterly laughable film about a very important subject."

"I ended up feeling sorry for Mr. Spacey, Ms. Winslet and Ms. Linney, so contrived was the foolishness in which they found themselves embroiled."

You trust a review site to tell you what not to watch? Why don't you rent it and see if you like it or not?

I don't like to waste my time with bad movies. So yes, with reviews at 20% I probably will take their advice on what not to watch.

I think the people most disappointed in the movie were expecting some deep movie that deals with the death penalty seriously, when in actuality the movie was nothing more than a cheap thriller/drama. If you take it for what it is, it's not as bad as people say it is, but it still isn't that great either.

Since when do people expect "some deep movie that deals with <insert issue here> seriously" out of a Hollywood movie? If you want depth and accuracy, watch the Discovery channel.

Given that it was a Hollywood movie I think the message was appropriately conveyed with the normal level of histrionics involved.

Question:

1. Why not a minority ( there is a lot of them on Death Row )
2. Why not Illinois (where the death penalty has been lifted)
3. Why a George Bush look alike ( lame Hollywood attempt )

Personally, I like the movie, it is not the best movie I ever see, but it is a great weekend movie.

3. Why a George Bush look alike ( lame Hollywood attempt )

1. Because the movie try to make a point that it could happen to anyone, not just minority who usually gets the death penalty
2. Because Texas is notorious for executing people, when you want to make a movie about the death penalty, you go for the place that's famous for it,
plus the death penalty has not been abolished there
3. I have no recollection of thinking that the guy looks like George Bush, he might be, but I never noticed that.

As kyutip said:

1. It was making a point that anyone could get the death penalty, even an innocent person.

2. Texas has a very high execution rate.

3. George Bush look-alike? I didn't see any resemblance either.

I saw it recently with my g/f.
It was good. My roommate got caught up in it and had to finish the movie also. (even tho he had a paper to do)

Too bad it tanked at the box office. I was one of the lucky ones to catch it in the theater.
